  • X2 Advanced Workshop Producer Effects - is it really "advanced"?

...'cause the promotional excerpt posted on YouTube showing basic functions of the already basic Boost 11 doesn't look too "advanced" to me.

So I wanted to know if the vid is more oriented at beginners or has some more comprehensive knowledge and techniques as well.

Any brief description of the more advanced topics included would be appreciated.

In order to not alienate newbies who want to advance their skills, of course they include a quick overview and introduction of all Producer effects, before delving into more and more intricate and complex stuff!

It's advanced if you don't know anything about the effects. Better than reading all them manuals.

Depends on your definition of advanced.

The Boost 11 video isn't that "advanced" as it is a simple to use plugin by design. The video is an in depth explanation on all of the effects included with X2 and includes full explanation of techniques and set up for parallel compression, mid-side processing, and side chaining among other subjects.

Although I authored the video the title was decided on by others who presumably thought it worthy of the title "Advanced".

FastBikerBoy, er,  I mean Karl -  thank you for making the X2 Advanced Effects tutorial.

PopStarWannabe - other Sonar reference materials and tutorials through the years have generally opted out of providing info on these effects by saying the effects are outside of the scope of their material.

Karl dove in fully and gives a thorough explanation through the included effects. Some stuff I knew or had learned from experience, but some stuff he explains I found pleasantly surprising. Like, really, it does that?  It can do that too? Kind of aha discoveries.

It's worth the time to view for sure!

Karl I am going through the advance workshop now. I am two hours in. You did a pretty good job with this as expected. To answer the original question, Boost 11 is a basic limiter with few controls. in more advanced effects Karl goes into more detail.

I never considered using the sonitus noise gate but after what I saw today I think I will put the other third party noise gates I used on hold and try the sonitus.

Instead of using the noise gates in the TH2 I think I will try some guitar presets and see what kind of results I can get from the sonitus gate.

The great thing about the videos is not just learning what the effects do. but I am getting ideas as to what kind of tracks I will use them on and I get ideas as to how to pair the effects up. This can come in handy the next time I design some effects chains

Hi Marcus - thanks for the support.

The Sonitus noise gate is a really good plugin, in fact I like all of the Sonitus stuff. The gate can really be "tuned in" plus it has a ducking mode as well which is demo'd in the sidechain video.

Thanks again for the support.

Ok, thanks for your answers.

Karl, I accidentally noticed that the content of the said vid is right here, in your footer, in form of a .pdf file. That's kind of hidden, should have been more exposed, for instance on the product sell page.

Karl,  maybe a second excerpt is in order.  I think the current sample gives people the wrong impression.
