  • How does True Piano compare to other piano vst's like Alicia Keys

I really like the sound of True Piano, but I was just wondering how the others compare. I have heard several others, but I would like to hear other opinions on why one  might be better than the other.

I have heard more "real" sounding vst's than True Piano, but for some reason TP just catches my ears...maybe someone can explain why...since I'm not a pianist.

Thanks

For AK there's some discussion here:

I am in the don't like camp for TP (sorry) . I gotta think AK's must blow TP out of the water.

One thing I really hate in particular with TP is that a light touch produces nothing. I've tried other settings but still get no light velocity samples.

EDIT: remember to check "advanced interface" before being to judgmental chris

Yea, I noticed the lack of dynamics in TP, but I still like the general sound of the pianos. (I don't know why)

Well, I didn't mean to imply that liking it is wrong, just that I believe if you have the ram to handle it (I'm sure it's ram happy) I just think AK's would blow true pianos out of the water.

Hi 1yola,

I have a few of the more ''expensive'' ones and while they sound much better than True Piano when played alone, I use True Piano when I have other intruments involved. Its weakness is actually its strength. The fact that it lacks dynamics makes it sit in a complexe mix with a lot of ease. Its pristine and crystal clear sound is actually ideal in such a context with almost no eq'ing needed. Hope this helps!

pianissimo is very good, inexpensive and not a memory hog.  But, I do like True Pianos.  I only have the amber (free) version, I have heard the other modules are better.  I think there are demos on the website any there is a special upgrade offer for Sonar customers.  Most agree Ivory is the best if you have the computing power.

I haven't listened to the AK piano (since I'm afraid I'll like it, but I can't afford it!). I have the full True Pianos, but I still prefer my Motif 6 (Classic) piano sounds to any softsynth I've heard so far. So there!

I have the Full TP and he diamond module sounds very good to me.

Tp is modeled not sampled that is why you do not get a different sample when playing quiet.

I have NI The Grand as well and there are things I like about it also like the sympathetic resonance. That feature is in TP as well but I do not hear it.

I have a controller in another room that has all 3 pedals At some point I will hook it up to my laptop and see the pressing the Pianissimo pedal has an effect on TP.

I want to thank you for starting this thread! Please disregard some of my negative posts as I obviously haven't learned enough about the plug (er, I'm feeling pretty sonar deficient today  )

Lovely control can be had after a the options changes (which I knew of) and the advanced interface (which I had not noticed) :sigh:
