Hmm... System Mechanic 6 Pro Amazon reviews:
5 star = 15
4 star = 9
3 star = 3
2 star = 3
1 star = 47

I generally take reviews with a grain of salt, but this looks a bit lopsided...

Reviews....
The last time I was pointed to a review was earlier today...to one that was from 2011 about
equipment I didn't use.
The number of stars I give it is what's important to me.

All evening downloading, installing and validating/activating software and not one single issue
and then after deciding to try X2a and give it another chance on a new PC and I have to ask what is going
on and jump through loops...spending more time dealing with weird stuff.
Leave it to Cake to have the only method that requires System Mechanic to be shutdown before files
can be saved.

You know...sometimes you get something in your life that just doesn't fit. May not be bad. May be it's
fine for everybody you talk to but for whatever reasons it will just never perform or "fit" into your life.
For the last 3 years- since X1 in 2010 it's just been tuff...I feel like I've been in the ring with somebody
that I just can't knock out and maybe it's time to take a fall. Maybe one of the best things that could have
happened, happened tonight.

I do appreciate the help and understanding.

If I'm not mistaken I think the instructions say you may need to disable your antivirus software during download/installation to prevent this from happening. But I could be wrong.

System Mechanic, the name says it all, i would get rid of that do-it-all-fix-it-all crap and get some better malware protection

the problem isn't Cakewalks install files, its your methods, your crap SM, and your attitude

soens makes a good point, did you even bother to read this BEFORE you downloaded the trial?...
http://www.cakewalk.com/support/kb/pages/x2_download_installation_instructions.aspx

1. Get rid of SM, 47 1 star ratings shoud not be ignored, to say "The number of stars I give it is what's important to me" is just plain arrogant
2. Save your money, maybe give MSSE at try, it works here for my malware protection
3. Download your files, note the MD5 hash values, Cakewalk provides them for a very good reason
4. Follow the advise above about downloading WinMD5Free, would it not be worth your time to take a few minutes to verify that the files you spent half the night downloading are not corrupt?

if your'e "Done with X2" then that's a good thing, the less people shooting themselves in the foot and complaining about the gun the better, who would want Deputy Droop-a-Long for a contemporary anyway?

Tweakberry, that post was just uncalled for.
Spacey's a good guy that just happens to have 'computer issues'...
He likes to throw them.
Computers irritate him.
I understand this.
I share that feeling, I just don't throw them...

So please, if you cannot be helpful......

The Maillard Reaction

All last month Malwarebytes threw a warning every time I clicked a link on this forum.

I looked in the source code and couldn't find which little active server function was triggering it so I gave up.

The warning dialog flagged an I.P. address and the source code was a URL so reconciling which one was the bad guy was too much work for an end user.

I elected to believe it was from was some sort of third party tracker function that was benign in this instance but associated with other not so benign instances.

I didn't bother making a comment because it seems like this is the new normal.

Stay strong Spacey! I've been assembling a collection of free standing 64bit VST plugins this month so that no matter where I land something will seem familiar.

all the best,
mike

Often, legitimate programers will use the same code that is used by hackers, or is that the other way around.... either way, the same code ..or similar code is used. The things that the malware can do is used for legitimate purposes much more often.

So a sensitive setting on a malware/virus detector can trigger a false alarm.

If you bought Sonar X1 from Cakewalk, and it's a legit version I would not fear letting it install itself.

If however, it was a cracked version or bootleg version..... well, you get what you deserve.

ya well i work with software developers who have users that do the same the OP does, software developers have mouths to feed just like the rest of us, and to present false information, when the problem is the users own methods, is just plain wrong, that is far more uncalled for than anything i said to the OP

how can claiming a product is infected with malware, in the title of this thread, in this public forum, before he had his facts straight, be such a defendable position here?

"Can anybody explain why Sonar X2.exe has that Malicious Adware Infection contained in it?"

i'm sure he's a great guy, were all great guys until we get a bug up our butts

i was helpful, i gave him good advise, and if i was a bit harsh i'm not feeling overly apologetic about that, next time i'll have my coffee first before posting
