  • Is Kontakt the way to go instead of TTS1 and Dimension

Hi all,
I just want to hear some opinions on what you think.
I suppose this has been discussed in simular threads, but I felt I wanted to hear some tips.
When I have created my music, I have first started off with the Cakewalk TTS1, just for the ease of it. After I get a feeling on what it will sound like, I start with replacing it with things like Dimension Pro since the TTS1 sounds too thin.
I don't like the drums in Dimension Pro and I want something that sounds bigger in sound.
I then thought about Kontakt, have listened to a few demos of it.
I was working on a pop ballad a few days ago and it doesn't sound the way I want it to.
So, has anyone some other tips on a good GM, or better synth, better than Dimension Pro?
Feel free to ask if you don't understand what I mean.
Many thanks for any help!

Kontakt is probably the best single investment you can make if you use virtual instruments. Dim Pro has some nice patches, but the breadth of choice in the world of Kontakt-based instruments is staggering.

C08 - I rely on Dimension Pro, Rapture and Z3TA 2 for all kinds of great keys and synth sounds. I could stop there and say I have more sounds than I need from them.

The DSF additional libraries have some great stuff to expand on these so I'm totally hooked on fully using these three great tools from Cakewalk. I'm just now learning even more about settings and features in Rapture that are absolutely fantastic.

So, now that I've done my solid plug for the Cakewalk mainstay and must have synths, I have to add that my synth world is crazy good because I also added the full version of Kontakt. Having Kontakt almost makes it seem like it's Christmas throughout the year. I keep finding new toys and presents under the Kontakt tree that fill me with childlike wonder and delight.

And I still use the three main Cakewalk synths so it's all a lot of good sounds and fun.

I use Dimension Pro just for a few things and I hardly ever use TTS-1. I got Sonicsynth 2 last year and that has been my GM workstation replacement - much better then my old Yamaha workstation...
Kontakt is great but I wonder how optimized it is. I have a fairly new computer and Skanner XT can suck up a huge amount of CPU usage with just one instance. NI has been great for providing free updates and I've never had a problem with their service so I would recommend Kontakt.
You will have far, far too many choices though.

Look at the cost difference between Kontakt and Dim Pro. That gap is also reflected in the capabilities.

The Kontakt factory library is not its greatest strength, but it's still very useful and covers most of the bases. There are so many good free and low cost third party libraries once you have the full version.

For drums a dedicated drum VSTi will be easier to use. BFD Eco is on sale for $29 until the end of the month, which is incredible value. Also check out Toontrack's EZ Drummer.
