Can't get it to write anything or respond to an automation write. Does anyone know? I have a hihat (overheads) part that I need played back in mono for 16 bars and then change to stereo - that's why.

Try automating Channel Tools

Was it a stereo recording to start with? Otherwise you won't get it sounding like stereo unless you apply a stereo effect to it, and this will affect the remaining bars.

Best bet is to isolate the 16 bars, split at either end & drag to a new track. Configure this one as stereo.

Or you could try automating Channel Tools

I vote for automating channel tools.

Thanks for the replies. As I stated in the op, it is a pair of overheads (naturally recorded in stereo). I just want the hats only intro in mono for 16 bars and then revert to stereo. I guess it can't be done using the expected method.

No, but automating CT is really easy

Just a thought, can't you just mute the overheads for the intro and use the close mic'ed hats?

Don't close mic the hats. We use 6 mics. Kick, snare, pair of 421's on toms and a pair of overheads. It's no big deal. We'll just re-record the intro in mono. I just run into screwy situations like this all the time. :)
