• SONAR
  • X2a - Project won't open (solved)

For some reason I have a project made in X2a that will not open anymore. Sonar just hangs. When closing it, it wants to save an untitled project... even though nothing ever loaded in.

So I emptied the Picture Cache and it opened fine. But after closing it I cannot get to open again.

Curious!

This sounds related to your previous post http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2848686
I cannot recall ever having a corrupted SONAR exe. It may be that restoring the exe from a backup masked the true problem. I would start looking at Windows event logs and checking out the PC hardware.

How would you know, or even suspect that your .exe is corrupted?

Regarding the project that won't open, have you tried opening it up in Safe Mode? (use the shift key while opening)

If it won't save, there must be an error message. What is it? (exactly)

IDK for sure. the other thread seemed a waring sign to me that something strange is happening on this PC.

Thanks. This may or may not be related to the other issue because it was happening before and after I replaced the exe file.

To be specific, I have a numbered series of a project ranging from copy1 to copy17.

On my 64 bit laptop they all open fine in X1exp-32 bit and X1exp-64 bit.

In X2a-64 bit numbers 1 thru 14 open fine but 15 thru 17 will not open.

In my previous post I suspected the exe file to be corrupt because colors weren't displaying right. After replacing it with the backup copy they worked fine and these projects opened as well... but only once.

I wonder if it's a registry issue. I'd hate to have to wipe X2 clean and start over but I might.

OK! So what appears to be happening is a "Sample Not Found" window was opening behind the main Sonar window. Since I could not see it, it appeared to be hanging. Now that I know it is there the project seems to be opening as it should.

These alert windows are supposed to open in front of the main window so you can see them.

Most aggravating!!!
