Hey all. Just got an email today about Cake's Sound Center Instrument Packs ($19.95 each).
 
Anyone have any experience with these instruments at all? I'm somewhat interested in the Orchestral packs, Urban, and Electronica. Has anyone here played with these sets who can tell a bit about them at all? I can't seem to find any audio samples anywhere.

My concern with the Sound Center Packs is the Sound Center player itself. It is stuck at 32bit. It is seems odd there is so much activity for a synth that has not been updated to 64bit. On the other hand, since Sound Center is a DimPro/Rapture player, the sfz files and samples can be played in those synths. The programs however are unique to Sound Center.

Thanks for reminding us.  I went to to DSF site and took a listen to the Cakewalk Sound Center Mellotron as I am a sucker for a Mellotron.  The demo audio track started out poorly, but by 1/4 into it there were some classic Tron sounds.  Given that Cakewalk is having a sale on these now for $19.95, that might be a good entry into Mellotron sounds for those who don't already own one of other dedicated Mellotron programs like GForce MTron Pro or IKMultimedia's SampleTron both of which cost considerably more.  So if you are interested in an inexpensive Tron library go take a listen while the sale is on in the Cakewalk store.

I was thinking about picking it up the Mellotron pack too for the samples since they can be played on DrimPro and Rapture. I agree the about the DSF demo. Still on the fence about it. Not sure if it is any better than the samples I already have.

The DSF Mellotron does sound good, but I'm also looking at Hollow Sun's Newtron Bomb III which sounds very good.

Haven't decided yet, but I'm a sucker for that Watcher of the Skies patch on NB III.
If I remember correctly, that sound is done by straddling the tape head(s) over two of the "sounds" on the tape strips.
These days, you just replicate the MIDI track and play both "patches"
