this is a real easy dumbed down way to learn midi im sonar (no offence to the dumbed down part)
it can sometimes be confusing for new users and its really easy.
theres 3 basic ways to use midi in sonar:

this is called basic midi:

the site has videos as well I just find those a little robotic.
its really easy when it comes down to it.

good luck.

Isn't it Cubase not Qbase?

The only way the MS GS Wavetable synth will work is in MME mode. You won't get very good results with it though.

Hi guys, sorry but today i was out all day for work and on the weekend I will be very busy @ the Drum-Academy.

Thank you for your great tips.....on Sunday I will try them all and also i will watch carefully the Utube videos about midi.
Now I'm off to bed because tomorrow morning I have to be up very early.

I will let you all know about my Sonar X1 midi progress on Sunday.

Thanks a lot and may God bless you all.

Bye for now and catch you all in a few days
Cheers

Hello out there, hope you are all well and happy.

I'm still going through the suggestions that Mr. Twl with patient and care, wrote for me to get the rig going. I've tried what he wrote, I've missed the Tutorials though because tonight I came back home really late from the Academy so, i couldn't really experiment all the tutorial points (Steps 1-4).

However i did try to assign the TTS-1 instead of the "Microsoft ...bla', bla' bla' synth", the bad one I have in my sound card; I did import the midi into the midi track (.....yes I know the difference between midi and audio, but Twl, don't worry about telling me these things, I'm not a guy that gets offended if i need help and in general in life....otherwise i would be stupid....inin't?....Life's too short! :-)

Anyways with my great surprise, I saw popping up in that little midi track, all the littles tracks, presenting in all it's beauty the midi file of (Change the world by Eric Clapton....actually a very nice midi file with nice sounds and....believe it or not, even perfectly spot on timing wise with all the instruments in synch.
Usually as you all know, midi files are so bad like if they are programmed by me when i'm drunk....(on Sundays usually); anyway, back to the electronic rig: I could even see the little leds moving up and down around in the mixer, after i did go into the Midi Device Tab and excluded the Microsoft one. I've applied the whole thing, but to my surprise even though the little lights were flashing, i couldn't hear a damn thing.

I said to myself: What the hell, .....I was close, I could even be half way through to solve this mistery but for some reason, probably for my "Mongoloidness with this Sonar X1" I couldn't get it to work.

One point in favour is that at least, something is playing, because i can see the leds moving but no sound in my headset.

Don't worry though, I have to check the tutorials and that's something I will do tomorrow when i will be back from the Academy. I won't check it on Sunday though, because from 4:00 pm onwards, after work, i will be on the moon for some nice booze that awaits for me on that particular day so, in those circumstances, it's not advisable to stay close to: Sonar X1, PC, electronic devices, Facebooks or any device that requires attention and concentration, I think you can agree with me.

OK I will have tomorrow another shot at it. Probably, i did make some mistakes somewhere about assigning this or that: Who knows? But i have to get on top of this.

Today I was at school checking on your Forum comments and tips, I truly see a lot of help from you guys and this makes me happy, really thank you all.

OK now I'm off to bed and i will talk to you soon, as soon as i will have more positive attempts to the electronic devices. You all take care and God bless you all.

Just to jump in , I work with pre made MIDI files so will offer a few tips.

First off you need to "open" the MIDI file or you will loose certain data that is embedded in the original file. If you "import" it into Sonar it will be overlayed with different data used by the  project template , like tempo and tempo maps will be gone.

Then you insert TTS-1 to the new project.
At this point you can use CNTL A to highlight all the tracks.
Now this is in 8.5 so might be a little different but you can globally assign all tracks to the TTS-1 by going to - Tracks/ Output/ MIDI/ TTS-1 accsess to this menu may have changed.

Don't worry about your MIDI in and out assignments, it's got nothing to do with playing a soft synth unless you input from an external keyboard.

You sound like you have not set your audio properly. If you using an on board sound card then set your drivers to MME and go to audio options and make sure the sound card is selected.
Then make sure the output of the TTS-1 is pointed there.

I normally insert a Master buss and assign it to the audio device. Then the TTS-1 is output to the Master instead.

After you edit you file and like the way it sounds you will
have to use select all or select none and go to Export Audio
Change the format to what you want and put it where you want and that's it. You should have a audio file of what your heard in sonar.

Hi out there, hope you are fine and happy.

Now i went to follow basically bits and pieces out from everyone tips. Mr. Cactus gave other useful hints but, this morning before going to teach, I went through it and it seems that the machine reads something with the TTS but it doesn't yet plays through my headset any sound. Really @ this stage, i must have done something wrong assigning outputs and whatnot but it doesn't play the sounds with the Softsynth. Indeed I've excluded the Microsoft etc etc, also i went into the tabs for the outputs, assigning the outputs to each track, then changed the ASIO and the MME but still no sounds. I think i need probably to find someone here in Melbourne which has the same program and then he/she (better if is a "she") can come to my place and set it up with me. There is something that i must have done wrong and I'm sure it's just a stupid thing that, once solved it will make the rig work. I will keep you all posted anyways and if you have any easier step for me to do, please write to me. OK guys, thanks again and God may bless you all.

Over and out
