Third Party Developers are asking for screen prints of serial numbers. I thought this wasn't advised, but no one is questioning it!

Does is not matter now with Cake's collapse?

Not to me.

I'll just not share it with users (of any DAW).

They validate the serial number by trying it with a SONAR install. They have no other way (e.g. checking with Cakewalk) to verify that you are a legitimate owner. It doesn't even verify that YOU are the owner, only that the serial number you gave them is legit. I'm sure they're storing it along with your email address to make sure the S/N isn't used more than once.

The worst that could happen is somebody hacks their database and publishes a gazillion serial numbers online. Somebody in Czechoslovakia might qualify for lifetime updates under your name!

That's a really short lifetime then.

What I'd , if your talking about the True Piano deal.. give them the serial for 8.5. That's already been hacked a million times anyways. I just won't use my Splat numbers those are collectables now.

Well, I have all my CW install files, I mean including ones that are disks going back to CWPA 9 thru  plat, every single upgrade except Sonar xl I think, can't find CWPA 6,7 & 8 though.
Also purchased reaper a while back but license is good thru v5.99 I won't be giving my Serial to anyone.
If I run out of ideas to run Sonar (big if considering I am still on w8.1x64 on daw and laptop is w7x64.

I would just assume learn reaper for $60 than spend $$$ on a crossgrade that I may never have to use. But I am only home studio, so easier for me to say.

If someone (illegally) gets my serial and installs and activates SONAR Platinum (a now defunct product) who relay cares? Only Gibson and they have bigger problems than that.

Again, not that I am going to give my serial# to anyone other than a reputable vendor (i.e. Overloud so far for me).

It came up again in the TruePianos thread, but it's just overcloud I need t d it with (I have full AAS, and never didn't install TruePianos). They're asking for a screenprint. I had never thought of loading up my old laptop and taking a screen print from that. But when Bit says something is cool, my doubt ends there.

Thanks Bapu too

I'm not going anywhere, I'm happy to stay with Sonar, I'm intrigued with what extra I'd get with Breverb, and having RE-Matrix as a VST. (I have TH3 full).

I've grabbed Overture 5, so the reverbs may come in useful for that, though I'm still mixing in Sonar.......Actually, maybe I should get TruePianos Amber then.

I have been working with a friend with Sonar Studio - he now gets a free upgrade to Platinum !

Feel stupid now for not doing this earlier.
