  • So, are Take Lanes REALLY that useful? (p.5)

This thread has given me two other lane ideas, which may or may not have been brougt up before: - A lock feature, so that a lane(s) cannot be accidentally deleted- A hide feature, for the obvious reasons

Well, if we are throwing out ideas, what about being able to store multiple comps to compare. For instance swip parts you want to keep and save as comp 1. Swipe different parts and save as comp 2. Then easily switch between them to compare.

I was one who made a long thread about Take Lanes quite some time ago.  My opinion hasn't changed because, well, since that thread nothing has been done.

I'm hoping that X2b will come along and take a big stab at cleaning up the mess that is Take Lanes b/c I think it is a good concept but just poor execution as of right now.  I feel like it could really be a LOT more intuitive than it is currently.

I”m feel very comfortable with the lanes. It is a major step forward, looking back at layers...

I think if you lock the clips in a lane or even one clip that lane the lane cannot be deleted. Not 100% sure about that but it would make sense. In that scenario you would select the clips > right click > Lock Pos/Data.

Hmmm...  that does make sense.   I guess the only drawback is that I also cannot comp the clips on that lane.

But I was looking at it more from an "oops, I didn't mean to do that" perspective, because a few times I've accidentally deleted a Track Lane after doing the same with Automation Lanes.

I just lock everything I'm not immediately working on out of paranoia. I make probably far too many Save As versions too but hey... at least when catastrophe strikes I should have my arse covered. No one needs to see that furry old thing. ;-)

I punch in everything almost.
this way eliminate the comping and take lanes.
when I finish a track recording, im done.
this seems to help a lot with the take lanes issue.

This is exactly what I do also.

I just had a read of Craig Andertons great tutorial on Take Lanes in the April SOS - I think I now start to get the Take Lanes much better, and from that article I fell confident in actually trying them. Thanks to CA for writing the article :)

Cheers
