And both my wife and I get to take part in this awesome fund raising event. Last year was incredible - IIRC, we raised $32 000 for the Imagine foundation to help Clark County's struggling public schools music department and buy them new instruments. It was also the very first time that my wife and played together on stage - one song.
This year promises to be even better and bigger - and we get to play on 3 songs together. I play a total of 5 songs, and I get the lead for the first time on 3 songs this year. As surprising as it is, I actually had to learn 4 of those songs, because we opted for some of the more obscure material, as well as a few pieces from the 90's.
The funny thing is that I hadn't really cared for KISS much for the last few decades, until a few days after we moved to Vegas in 2012 and I happened to stumble upon Ace Frehley's recently released autobiography - which sort of rekindled my interest. As fate would have it, the first local musicians we started hanging out with were these guys. So there's a big connexion between Vegas and KISS for me.
Anyway, it's a great opportunity to play with some incredible musicians, to meet other people who got into music because KISS was an integral part of their childhood, to celebrate the music of a band that's all about having a good time and self-emancipation, and to raise money for a very good cause. I'm honoured to be part of something like that.
