I want to add that some patches in Dim Pro don't have sounds outside of ranges appropriate for the instrument being synthesized. In other words, if you choose a bass and try to play c8 or c9 (sounds high on the keyboard) there will be no sound patch. Likewise, if you choose a high pitched instrument and try c1 or c2 you may get no sound.

Thanks for the help GS. I followed the steps, starting a new project, etc. Everything was going ok until I got to the step, (spacebar to play, you should now hear your single note play). I didn't, and that's what I've been dealing with. I'm wondering if I need to re-install dimension pro, perhaps something is wrong from that angle. i really appreciate you taking the time to explain and go through the steps...I'll keep at it and will update as soon as I get it working...

GS, As I mentioned earlier, if I insert a soft synth like SI-Piano, it works right away, no problem. So should the dimension pro/rapture. But those 2 choices are not working. So i think it's something to do with that. For example when I open the dimension pro the window pops up about Complete Registration. But I've checked that out awhile back and when I go through the steps it claims I've already registered. Now today I tried it again and it's now saying the registration code that I have in invalid. So I'm thinking it's something to do with that perhaps. I might have to make the call to Cakewalk and inquire. That being said, the program opens up and I'm able to adjust everything, just can't hear any sounds. Again, thanks everyone for the assistance...

Sometimes I find that the standalone versions of the synths tend to have settings options that the VST plugin doesn't. The standalone then memorizes the settings and the VST version uses them. Have a look in the standalone version for different settings.

Rapture and Dim Pro differ from the piano plug in in that you have to select a patch. That's really the main routing difference. If you don't select a patch you don't get a sound. Where the piano plug has a default patch it comes up with, so you get sound no matter what.

I'm not sure how to advise. I basically understand that you are telling me that
1. you have a midi track routed to the Dim Pro.
2. your instance of dim pro has a selected patch
3. you have an audio track with an input from the dim pro

So, what can I ask...
1. Which dim pro patch did you select?
2. when you play the midi note, you see the level bounce on which of the two tracks? midi, audio, both, none?

Thanks,

G

I have windows 8, having a bit of difficulty finding the stand alone version...I know, it should be easy, but when I search for dimension pro files with windows 8 search, I get all kinds of patches and sounds showing but can't seem to find the stand alone icon. Easy with breverb because it's an icon on my desktop. GS, As far as the patches I've tried, I've bounced around to quite a few, piano, strings, guitar, etc. still nothing. I see the level bounce in the track of the dimension pro (midi) when I apply a note with the roland keyboard. I'm outta here for abit, will check back later today....thanks guys....

I can't remember if the installers give you the option not to install the standalone versions. The standalone versions are located with the VST dlls. The default 64bit location for DimPro is "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Dimension Pro"; for Rapture "C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Rapture".

Open the event list for the midi track routed to DP. If there are any RPNs or NRPNs in the event list, delete them. Save the project then close Sonar. Open it back up and see if that helped.

@doto,

I've done what I can for you. I'll leave you in the more capable hands of the more senior forum members.

@guitarpima,

I had him try creating a new project and adding a single midi note at the beginning of the project. This should have ruled out errant midi events.

When you say you can "see levels" when touching the keyboard, are you seeing midi input levels or audio input levels? Two different things.  My guess is you're seeing midi activity, not audio. Also, the registration "Pop-up" window that you're getting when launching DimPro is another issue that may be causing problems... if DimPro thinks you're still using an demo version, it may think you've gone beyond the trial period and it's disabling itself. I would contact Cake support directly via phone.  Someone there should be able to walk you through the proper steps to straighten things out.
