I think you're confused about how tape works on analog recording. The tape machine is the multi-track recording medium. So let's say I'm recording a band and I have a  24 track tape machine, I'd record each individual "channel/microphone/DI" part onto it's own track. The tape itself is where these tracks are stored, and played back from.

Then, there's the mixdown...once you have your mix setup, you're going to route the stereo mixdown to a separate tape machine, usually a 2-track mixdown or mastering machine.

So for VTM, you'd probably want to use the 16-track model on individual tracks and the 2-track on the stereo output. On the tracks, you could put VCC after the tape plugin, and the master output bus, you could put VCC before VTM. Really though, there are no rules and you should do what sounds best to you.

Funkybot: that makes sense, I had my head up my digital rectum when I posted this. Sorry, but your statement:

Why the VCC-VTM track sequence and VTM-VCC two buss sequence?

Tape signals flow thru the console at mixdown, to the master buss and out to the two track.

This is correct, and why I recommended the workflow I did.

Sorry about the duplicate posts but this new forum software appeared to do absolutely nothing for a while, hence the multiple clicks, then all of a sudden everything got posted at once.

While I have no problem with described plug-in setup, the description of the mixing signal flow would indicate to me VTM > VCC > VCC > VTM since it started with the multi-track unit and ends with the mastering deck with the console tracks and buses in between.

I only use a Tape Sim on either a Guitar buss to add a bit of sizzle (Flux) to guitar tracks or vocals, then I'll use it again in Mastering. Otherwise, If you've heard of C.L.A.S.P., this is an emulator you can use to route all your incoming signals through into the DAW so that it's like you recorded to tape, but imported the tape tracks into the DAW. In essence, one could use the tape sim on all recorded tracks while tracking then remove the plug-in after recording is complete, but I don't recommend this if you're expecting your headphone mix to come from the DAW directly via the echo function.
