  • Sonar X2a Graphics bug?

I started a Project gradually adding:-
Kontakt 5, EZKeys, Lounge Lizard EP-4, Kontakt 5, Dim Pro 1.5
I loaded Dim Pro with Legato attack & pizzicato 1059.5Mb (from DSF Symphonic Strings HD) and closed the Dim Pro display. When I went back to try another preset in Dim Pro it just gave a blank display and Sonar X2a stopped responding and just hung. I had to do use Windows "end task" on Sonar.

I reloaded the project and this time I removed every folder but the Dim Pro one and Dim Pro would open into a normal display. I reloaded everything again and looked at the other graphic displays. Kontakt 5 and EZKeys displayed instantly but Lounge Lizard was blank for half a second before displaying instantly. If I tried Dim Pro again blank display and hung Sonar.

Is this a bug in SonarX2a or in Dim Pro 1.5?. I reported previously that R-MIX SONAR gives a blank display when your Windows memory use gets high (over 4 Gb).

Has anyone else experienced this bug?

Sonar X2a, Windows 7 64 bit, 8 Gb Ram.

UPDATE
Tried out the project in Reaper 4.402 to see if it was Sonar X2a or Dim pro causing Sonar to hang. In Reaper the project would run and would not hang when displaying Dim Pro.

I went back ran the Sonar project again and at first Dim Pro did not crash when I displayed its panel. After a short time when I tried to display Dim Pro it hung.

Does this suggest Sonar has a memory leak or some memory problem when dealing with large memory requirements in programs and seems to be connected with its use of graphics.

I  have encountered a graphics problem with R-Mix and now with Dim Pro. Other people have had problems with R-Mix. Anyone had problems with graphic displays on these and other plugins crashing or hanging Sonar?.

Have you looked at the Performance Module to see if you are maxing anything out? Right click the Control Bar > Performance Module. I find that when Sonar starts pulling graphical stuff and lagging/crashing like that increasing my buffers helps. If you require low latency for recording freeze the rest of the tracks and bring the buffers back down. There are also specific patches in Dim Pro that cause lags and crashes. You may have stumbled upon one of them. Another thing to check is your graphics card settings/drivers. If you are using on board graphics it might be worthwhile to get a cheap graphics card that has some video memory on it. I picked up a Gigabyte one for $20 bucks and I think it helps.

Oh and if you think there are resource problems you could use that DPS latency checker thingy. If you give Cake a call they can help you analyze your system for potential problems. They got me fixed up pretty good. Cheers.

cant say I have but then again it would be foolish for me to make an assumption without knowing any of your computer/soundcard specs.
