I just cycled a couple of miles in Manhattan on a bike share bicycle and when I got to my destination realized my bag had fallen off the basket on the front. Keys, phone, wallet with almost $600 in it that I was going to bank. Had to run back through the route over a mile, utter panic setting in as I realized how much trouble this was going to cause - no apartment keys, no cards or money to pay for a locksmith, no ID, no phone to call anyone to sort anything out. And the bummer of the cash!

Yet there it was, strewn across the middle of the road near Washington Sq. Park, with everything still it in. It had been there almost 15 minutes without one single person rifling through it. In Manhattan? It's a Christmas miracle!

James, you're in The Twilight Zone for sure.

Or Pleasantville.

Nice! Your lucky day! What a mess that would have been losing that stuff. Ouch.

You should have played the lottery that day though finding your bag was like hitting it.

While all of the above comments apply, I can't help but keep thinking...  If I had a bag that valuable with me, how the heck did I NOT notice it fall out of the FRONT basket of my bike???

I think it was basically because I was too busy getting my jollies off the vibrations from the cobble stones

I also dropped an umbrella cycling down 5th Avenue the other day - a motorist was kind enough to stop, pick it up, and hand it to me through his window as he overtook.

I'm seriously considering buying 600 scratch cards.

We all know the mayor that's responsible for cleaning up your city.  God bless him!

That is very cool James!

Reminds me of something that happened to my dear ol' mum many years ago. She'd misplaced her purse while out shopping one morning and duly walked down to the police station to report her loss. As she was giving her details to the desk sergeant, a woman walked in behind her and stood awaiting her turn to be attended to. Within seconds of listening to the ongoing conversation, the lady interrupted and said, "I think this might be what you've lost" and then proceeded to place mum's purse on the desk!
