Imported a midi file - sent to TTS-1 and cannot overide original instrument assignments
I looked at event list with all options selected and there are no controller or other events that would force a particular instrument to be selected.

As soon as I hit Play my instrument assignments are changed back to the originals

I looking at both the track and clip inspector there is no instrument selection available (inearlier versions of Sonar it used to be in the Track properties)

Where in the $&^% can this be?
Any ideas?

A couple of things to check. First check the Sysex view and delete any GM reset message (or turn off auto send).

More likely for your problem though is that the patch changes are on the tracks. Use the "Event List" view and delete them or change them to whatever you want to use.

Nothing in sysex

On further investigation This is a 4 track midi file
Track 1 instrument can be changed o anything without reverting back
Tracks 2-3-4 however still revert to the original instruments

Hmmm

Further investigation=
If I copy from notes from the piano roll view and paste into a newly created track I no longer have the problem with the instrument assignments

but Damn, it sure is frustrating to have to go through all that.
I wish I knew where that instructions are hiding

What about bank or program changes ?
Although they should show up in the event list though.

There's nothing but note events in the event list
Where else would the bank or program changes appear?

Not sure what is going on if the aren't showing in the event list. There must be something resetting them in the tracks as you've found out by moving the notes.

hey fred, i took a look at the guts of the midi file using a hex editor and all of the program change info is there.  the problem seems to be that their timestamps are 00 which puts them right at the start of the file.  it appears sonar does not display these events at the beginning of the file in event manager for some reason, though it does set the instruments in the patch selector in the midi file. if you select a track, open track inspector and change the patch using the <P>atch dropdown right above the fader and save the file it retains the new data but it still doesn't show up in the event inspector.  my feeling is it was thought of as redundant in the first place to display it when you can already see and change it.
