  • X2 users: Would you buy X3 if there was no X2b? (p.4)

If they included some of the extra PC modules I'm missing that would make me consider it but I'd want them to be backward compatible with X2. I don't feel like waiting for patches like I have been and I do really like X2 for the most part... not to mention I kind of know how to use it now... kind of.

I find the overall level of optimism in this thread rather strange.

And some of you state that you wouldn't even seem to have any problem shelling out for X3 if it contains fixes for some of the problems in X2. I'm sorry, but that's just bizarre. And despite the obvious absurdity of buying an upgrade to get fixes to a previous version, it's almost guaranteed that the new version will bring forth its own set of bugs and problems. It's a vicious circle where you're effectively paying up front for the product after next.

Don't get me wrong, loyalty to a company and to software we all love is completely understandable, but surely that should be a two-way street? In my opinion, and for whatever reasons (that we'll probably never know), the perception of reciprocal loyalty from Cakewalk to its customers seems to have all but dried up.

If anyone honestly believes things are as friendly and co-operative around here now as they were pre-Roland then I'm afraid I'd deduce that they were either being delusional at best, or unrealistically sycophantic at worst.

For the record, X2a is working fine for me, but I'll decide whether or not to purchase X3 on its merits, and nothing else.

Would be too soon for another (paid) upgrade for me. We're not all made of money, ya know!

Cakewalk is a totally different company than it was 3 years ago....and not for the better.  Even though I have moved on to Cubase i would probably upgrade out of nostalgia.

I'm feeling the same way, Cakewalk has changed.  I used to have warm fuzzies about them because I felt there was a more personal touch.  Cakewalk had the feel of a small company and I liked the thought of supporting that but they've started feeling a lot more 'corporate' as of late and I find that my loyalty has waned.  Sonar has a lot going for it but I started looking at the competition, and it becomes about feature for feature at that point.

I've been testing the Digital Performer demo rather thoroughly and going through the DP tutorials at Groove3.  Even though there is a learning curve DP is better suited to the way I would like to work.  I'm using X2 until DP is stable then I'm switching.  This is of course on the assumption that they arrive at that point, which they seem to be tackling head on.

I agree with SteveStrummerUK,

Why would anyone want to pay to for a bug fix patch labeled as a full upgrade? Companies have an obligation to provide software that does what it is described to do, and, well, work. If it crashes every time the described operation is performed, then the software is defective.

I wouldn't.   Now, if it offers things I want - as every upgrade seems to have done up to this point - then I will.   So, IOW, I most likely will.

yes I would because what I use it for and how I use it proves productive for me.
99 dollars for an upgrade is a small price to pay.
and I do see each version improving. from the x1 - x2.
x2 has some quirks about it but there not show stoppers by any means to me.
I would however like to see some interaction between cake and the forum.

EXACT DITO FROM ME.  My most concerning problem is their total lack of input or comments on the forum!  My X2a Producer runs fine.

As it stands, X2a is working for me. Don't need X3 because I got my hands full, already! But, then again, I'm driving a Formula One car through a congested city. Haven't been red-lining, yet  As my capabilities grow, so will - I assume - my "problems". But, I'll cross that bridge, when I come to it!
