  • Working with multitrack drum loops in X1 - SOLVED!

I'm trying to build a drum track with some multitrack drum loops (5 actual files per beat - kick, OH, snare, etc). But it's acting squirrely. I select all 5 files in my browser and drag them onto the tracks. But it places them wherever on the timeline it wants to. It'll place them ON the correct tracks, but they might line up at the start of the song, the middle, wherever. Seems to be no pattern to it. I seldom use loops, but it should be simpler than this. I may simply be doing something wrong. FYI - I have placed the now-time marker where I want the files, and I release my mouse at the correct spot, but neither seem to matter. Also - can I make "groove-clip looping" enabled by default. I'm having to right click and select it for each file. Thank y'all!!

This seems like a perfect usage for the Matrix View. I'm not quite sure what is happening in your project. Are all of the files you drag at least synched up to the same spot or are they completely showing up at different points on timelines

ive seen this before as well, with audio you can just choose import at broadcast time stamp, not as easy with midi.
try changing this in preferences.
"always import @broadcast time stamp.(check this)

by the way, instead of right clicking to enable grooveclip looping just select all files with ctrl+a and then hit ctrl+L and that will enable it for all. There are a lot of reasons you likely would not want Sonar to automatically take any file it thinks is a loop and treat it like one.

Thanks y'all for your replies. To answer your questions:

"Are all of the files you drag at least synched up to the same spot or are they completely showing up at different points on timelines"
Yes. When I drag in the 5 loops they do line up in time with each other.

"try changing this in preferences."
That box is indeed already checked. Thanks.

I would agree. Was just hoping the was a way I could do it just for this session. Then disable it. Thanks!

If  I understand your post correctly, you want to do the opposite to the advice above, and uncheck "Always Import Broadcast wavs at timestamp".

They should then go where you drag them.

Thank you - I did indeed read that suggestion incorrectly. I just tried it and it works perfectly. And by the way - I should have already stated - I am working with audio files. Thank y'all for your help!! Problem solved.
