Can I get rid of docking permanently and if so how ?
I've looked through the help section but don't see it.

I hate it, I don't want to have to start a new project and have to get rid of it every time.
I either want to see all of the console or none of it, I hated it in X1 and am still hating it in X2

I have personally never understood what the point of docking was - often I want multiple plugins visible on screen at a time and the dock doesn't provide this.  I really don't understand what it is for.

Undock either the view Window or the multidock (depending on whether you want to use that or not) so they are floating windows. Save that as your template. AFAIK there's no way of opening a new view already undocked. You can see

I don't understand what you mean here. If you open the console view in the dock and maximise it, it always opens maximised unless you shrink it in exactly the same way any other OS window does.

It's a great Window organisation system. I personally don't work in multi views all at the same time (it's actually impossible as only one window has focus at a time anyway) so the multidock is a way of having multiple windows accessible all at the same time while only taking up the space of one.

If you need to see more than one at the same time, float one or all of them as you would normally.

Use the tabs or Ctrl+Shift+arrow keys to change quickly.

What I meant was I have one monitor and I only ever want to see one window at a time but I don't want to lose all my tool bars which is what happens when I maximise  and another huge annoyance for me is that if I'm in the console or prv it often obscures any vsti's I have open and minimised. I always have BFD2 open and I'm always having
move the console or prv to access it which I never had to do prior to X1 & X2.
]For me they broke a load of things that really didn't need fixing.

I know you love it but I don't and don't envisage myself ever doing so

I'm not a fan of the Multidock, or the Browser for that matter.

I only use the Browser because we no longer have the Synth Rack (View), and I never use the Multidock at all.

Didn't someone once come up with a way of removing the closed/collapsed Multidock from the screen completely? It's such a waste of space. Why can't the give us the option to turn it off all together, and maybe have the same choice with the Browser.

By tool bars do you mean control bar? That definitely shouldn't be obscured when maximising. I sometimes wish that was an option.

If you have the PRV open in the multidock have you tried putting BFD in the dock as well? All you need to do then is either click on its tab or press ctrl+shift+arrow key.

If you want a maximised PRV with BFD visible at the same time that should be possible as well - Although I rarely use it like that the dock never obscures VST windows here, either maximised or minimised. Not sure why you are seeing different, I don't think I have any setting that does that unless it is unique to BFD.

Have you tried X-ray as an alternative?

the console view or any other view besides the track view opens in the dock anyway.
meaning the second you choose  "view/console view"  it opens in the dock.
what this also means is you have to use the dock to be able to use any view other than track view.
the dock is great but for peeps with one monitor I can understand why youd want to have a whole screen of the different views.
its actually one of my favorite features in sonar, makes changing views easy as pie.
but like I said, one monitor, I can kinda see your point.

the arrows at the bottom of the dock will collapse it, everytime you go to the views option, anything you choose there will open in the dock, besides TV.
think of TV as being the undockable view, the basis which sonar uses for its main frame

my advise is to set up screensets.
create a template, use your template everytime you open your new projects.

Karl, I think the OP is referring to this...

In the Console View, click on the Restore option (in the top-left corner).

Now select Enable Floating.

Finally, click on Maximise and it will fill the whole screen, obscuring the Control Bar.

I thought you could undock the control bar and then it's just a matter of hitting the keybinding to bring it to the surface (c?). Should just pop up over whatever else is happening. I love the dock and AFAIK if I wanted to floated anything I can. In fact many things seem to default to floating and I have to drag them into the dock. Long live the Multi Dock!

I find the Multidock indispensable when building up Midi compositions.

I've had as many as a dozen different PRV screens available, all just a click away, zoomed & snapped exactly how I want them.
