Thanks everyone for their feedback on this.

I agree with many points.
Eq-ing the intro vocals makes a lot of sense. I too feel the lead vocal should become more present as the song goes on and you know this is a problem with doing part/multi takes with a digital DAW, instead of trying to do one full take and your vocally naturally lifting the song relative from start to finish, instead you go back record individual sections without any real reference to the other parts, make sense.

Unfortunately I have gone travelling just before I could get a chance to implement these few tweaks. Perhaps when I get back.

Thanks,

Cian

Wow, a very creative take on this. It must have taken you a while! The mix sits pretty well as it is, but if anything, I would take the main vocal down just a hair - it's almost too in-your-face, which is usually what I want. I found at times I was trying to hear the orchestration/arrangement of parts, but the vocal was just too strong on top of them.

You sing very well, by the way!

cheers,
-Tom

A great and interesting interpretation of one of the great gospel songs ever.
Great arrangement and terrific vocals.

Nice singing Cian.

Unfortunately for reasons not to be discussed here I am not a fan of the song itself, but this is an interesting interpretation.

bapu the teacher!  let's see, does that make the overall about a B? :-)

one of my favorite songs, it's hard not to be impacted by this song in a lifetime it's such a large part of our historic being.  I'm not fond of this style, but your performances are excellent, vocals especially, as usual.  so I guess I'm saying basically I agree with the baps.

You're a talented vocalist and a very good musician, but this arrangement/style seems like a bit of an odd juxtaposition.  It's almost like if Kanye West were to try a country song; it might be pretty darn good but it would sound out of place.  I respect the craft and effort you put into this.

Thanks for all your feedback.

I think for the purists, to put such a historical church song in this genre would just seem plain wrong but I still think the feeling of worship can still be in the delivery of the track despite the genre used. I would love to try this arrangement live with a real band I reckon I could make it work, albeit push it a little more gospel.

Anyway, glad the vocals sat well even if a hair to loud.

From an earlier post, I use kontack and dimension pro for sounds. THe horn falls are dim pro.

Cheers,

Cian

My belief is that any song can be done any way.  Amazing Grace the movie. was great.  I actually love this version. The modulation at the end was really smart.  Nice, Cian!
