Hmm, good question. The problem might be is that I've gotten used to Finale. Whenever I use the Midi-Keyboard I always hear what I am playing. If I'm imputing on a violin track, I will hear the violin. If I inputing ona piano track, I hear the piano. etc. I was expecting to hear the acoustic piano sounding as I was pressing notes.

The KB 37 input and output are the same device - KB37.

What I do see as strang is for Track 5 (the midi channe) I am see 3-Line 6 Port KB37. For the output, I see 1-3-Line 6 Port KB37. Input and output are on channel 1. I don't know what the problem is. I'll keep on looking through the help, maybe I'll find something.

If you're recording from a midi track for yourself, what do you normally use? Maybe I can mimick what you do and maybe stumble on the answer. I has to be how I'm mapping it because Sonar is recognizing the keyboard and the output because I can hear demos, but I'm not doing something properly for the midi set-up.

step 1) go to insert / soft synth
step 2) choose your synth.
step 3) go to the tracks input and change it to your keyboards name. (example: m audio oxygen 49)
step 4) make sure input echo is turned on (don't forget this or you wont be able to hear the synth)
step 5) that's it.

Well, I think I figured it out. I didn't have the TSS loaded in the in or out. I had the KB37 - slap my forehead! I feel like Ricky Ricardo must have felt when Lucy did something strange - except that I pulled the Lucy!

thank you Chuck for the tips. I watched your videos and found them extremely helpful. thank you for the recipe - I can help my keyboard playing and hear it playing back. Now I can start to move forward.

I will probably be after further diffiulties as I go through layers of learning and appreciate the help and the vidoes. Please sent me out videos you may have created. Always learning something new.

thank you for the tips. I can now open a new project and get everything to work - this is the first step. I do the Garritan Aria Player mapped to sonar because I was just able to use the Soft Sync to play in the Violin that I have loaded in Finale. Geez  it 's taken me almost 4 years to really get this to work for me. I'm total Stoked!!!

Run with it.
Now that you've got the signal path figured out, it's pretty much the same for all of your soft synths.
