X2 x64 with X2a update - I have a session that has Hollywood Strings running on a slave machine via Vienna Ensemble Pro5 along with two other VE instances with orch libraries running via Kontakt in VE.  Loading the session everything running in Kontakt within Vienna slaved to VE, or local loads fine, but the HS, running via "Play" within VE crash/freezes X2 trying to load.

If I start up the slave machine after X2 and then manually load HS from the synth browser everything loads, runs and plays fine.  Updated HS and Play, no fix.  It's a pain in the has to have to load/connect each instance manually.

Don't know if the problem is with X2, Play or Hollywood Strings.

PLAY is PLAY no matter what library of theirs you are using, so its probably not an HS problem.  I remember when ramping up to the latest PLAY engine, people in their forum suggested always loading PLAY before Kontakt, or one might experience just the problem you are having. Not sure how to force the order of opening, but a workaround might be to "unload" or freeze the Kontakt instance before saving. Then when you launch the project again, see if HS loads fine and then unfreeze Kontakt.

You might find some illumination over in EastWest's forum.  That forum is second best... IMHO...

Best,
Rob

This is interesting.  I use both Vienna and Hollywood but have never learned Ensemble and did not realize it would manage non VSL-products/libraries.  I do want to investigate the second machine idea for performance reasons at some point.  Hollywood is a PC-killer and Dimension Strings can create quite a strain if all articulations are loaded.

I also did not get the part about everything running i Kontakt.  No need to explain if you don't have time, but I don't understand the concept.  I basically use Vienna Instruments Pro for VSL, Play for EastWest and Kontakt for things specifically designed for it.

Konrad,
Play, Kontakt or most any other sample player/engine run within Vienna on the slave machine.  In Sonar VE looks like a virtual synth in the browser.  On the slave machine VE runs the sample libraries.  You can run full stacks virtual racks of Kontakt, Play ect, from within VE.  Look at VE as an instrument manager.
