Hello, Any advice on buying a bass amp modeler/plugin?

In addition to the excellent suggestions already posted you might consider recording direct and then using one of the bass amp impulses in Perfect Space to give it some speaker oomph. Since you already own it you won't have to pay anything and it really sounds quite nice.

Another cheap option that I personally like to play with... Voxengo Tube Amp w/ agressive settings => EQ => cabinet impulse => Breebart Ferox for compression

Line 6 Gearbox Gold - includes a great DI - tons of amps - both bass and guitar - try the guitar amps on your bass - yes! Vocal processing as well - this is superb.

The IK free thingy is the Bass SVT fx

Do you know where to find this?

BTW - I have been struggling with getting a great bass sound recorded for several months. I finally went simple by going through a direct box and using Camel Crusher, tweaking the settings for a smooth but cutting sound. I also got a nice sound using voxengo's Boogex and loading the Ampeg cabinet impulse.

There is a good Bass Amp-sim HERE. Also check out his other plugs. All free and all worth money. Ever since I downloaded these plugs I stopped using the IK stuff. Much better sounds and much lighter on the recourses.

Absolutely awesome plugin +1,000,000,00

I used the B.I.G recently, it's free, works flawlessly, sounds fantastic, really helped bring the bass up more prominent in the mix, solid and clear with very nice deep low end! It has unlimited tonal possibilities (loads of very useful settings/tweaks) and I'm amazed at how very light it is on recourses. Love it

Pick up a copy of this month's RECORDING magazine, which contains a glowing review for the Markbass (a bass amp company) Mark Studio 1 bass amp modeler. They were pretty high on it.

I see no one has yet mentioned the Virtual Bass Amp by Studio Devil. I own the Line 6 Gearbox bass pack, and since I got it I've used it on every bass track I've done. Last night I tried the VBA demo, and it sounded amazing right from the go. I had three synth basses stacked in a buss to which I applied VBA, and every one of them acquired greater depth and clarity.

I own a copy of Studio Devil's Virtual Guitar Amp, and it's a great tool for getting a great amped sound quickly and easily. It's like standing in front of the amp--that simple. VBA is that kind of thing--easy, quick, sounds great. Not terribly pricey either at less than $70. It's on my list. If I didn't already have Line 6 Gearbox, I would buy it today.

First, buy IK's SVX now. Then next month buy Spectrasonics "Trilian". That should keep you occupied and happy.
