I'm about half way through an album project with a band. With one thing and another, we'll be working on that intermittently until about April. See no reason right now to not keep that in Sonar. I also do audiobook editing work, and I have a very fast and efficient process for that in Sonar, which I'm going to stick with.

My current plans are to make no changes at all, really. I do feel the need to get up to speed on something else, but I think I'm going to wait for a small mix job to come, say a 2-4 song EP, and see what it's like doig a mix in Reaper (which I've never done). Have mixed in Studio One and Ableton relatively recently, so already have an idea of those.

Ultimately, I don't feel in any particular rush.

Well basically, I only just started Sonar figured out, being a instrumentalist/guitarist 1stly........and I I just spent heaps settin up Sonar, .....so I cant be bothered changing over........my computers 12mths old......so its got a few years left in it.........and I found a "black Friday" cheap computer deal $300 aud......I installed Sonar on this 2nd computer, so when computer one dies....ill have computer 2!!!......all windows updates dis-enabled......yeah its ok if you can transition in-betweens daws really easily....but I have reading problems from chronic dizziness/vertigo.....so anything I actually learn takes "A Lot" of effort......I feel like I just took 20 years to climb a ladder, and when I finally saw the top, everyone jumped off!!!Sorry I'm stayin up here!!!

My only worry is that at some point in the future I am going to have to upgrade my laptop. So we will need to see if someone, somewhere provides us with an unlock code of some sort.

I know something along this line has been "promised" but until we have it I tend to remain somewhat sceptical.

Only then will I jump ship, so to speak.

Actually let me add that I will pay for a new DAW if that new DAW is the res-erected Sonar. I'm more optimistic than ever. Sonars code is priceless and we WILL see it return.

I've learned more about these other DAW's in the last 2 days than I have in the last decade.

This is a classic case of "you dont know what you got till its gone" is probably what a lot of people are realizing, my self included, in the last few days looking at other DAW's.

Im there with the resurrection, even if just maintained with regular OS integration changes when required, at some reasonable annual subscription fee.

While I did pay for "Lifetime updates" I thought about this risk at the time, but figured mine would probably end before Sonar's LOL. But it wasn't really anymore than I would have paid to update annually.

Let's hope some wealthy entrepreneur, rock star or Bill Gates see this as too good of a software to just let die, we should all take to Twitter and start petitioning them.

Cheers

Until something kills it, meaning an important third party plug that I use or Microsoft update, then it works as it always has so I will continue to use SONAR.

I'll keep using SONAR as long as it'll work. Don't see any reason not to.
I have downloaded and demoed both REAPER and Studio One. No big issues starting to use them, and I got work done. Those are per now the only contenders. S1 at the top due to ARA integration.
I also have MixBus 4, which is more of a stems mixing tool in my book.
All the best.

I'm another who is staying on SONAR for a while.

I know there are a lot of people who are concerned that Windows 10 will make SONAR unusable.  However, I have been using P5 for the past 10 years over a few operating system revisions.  Outside 32 bit RAM issues, it works well.

Windows is not MacOS.  Microsoft tends not to break backwards compatibility in that way.  Even if they did something which would make SONAR unusable, it wouldn't be so bad that you couldn't export your MIDI and audio out of projects.

I plan to stay with SONAR as long as it's working reliably. I'm currently working to make sure that I've downloaded everything I need. I have a number of Cakewalk products that I still use that are not installed by Command Center. I also want to keep older versions back to 8.5 if I can.

Hopefully, we'll be able to maintain some sort of forum for collaboration and collaborative support.

Yep, staying in there for as long as I can.  I too have invested a heck of a lot of money over the last 25+ years and rode the X1 uncertainties at the time (let's face it, it was bad !).  Could have bailed out then, but I had faith and trust in all the Bakers and Noel as CTO.
This time it's a bit more serious, but let's see what happens.  I'll be looking around, but it won't be a priority just yet.
Basically, don't want to be one of the rats ...

I'm not going anywhere! I love Sonar and I'm very saddened by what's happened, but I'll use it for as long as I possibly can.

Hopefully, by the time it's no longer usable someone would have picked up the development for Sonar or one of the other DAW's has finally caught up to what Sonar currently is.
