I will use Sonar until the doors fall off of it.
It has too many features I need (Region FX, Pro channel, FX chains, Drum replacer) Its not an option here.
Im not going any where.
I will still be making videos for Sonar as well on my you tube channel.

I'm sticking with SONAR as long as it functions properly.

Meanwhile I'll look into other DAWs, as time allows. I have and occasionally use Mixbus. I also have Reaper that I bought for another reason (Use as a meter bridge with my A&H QU32 mixer for live theatrical and festival shows. Because it allows stacking the console view so I can see all 32 tracks on one screen of the laptop).

Not making any knee jerk reactions at this time. Too many projects to finish.

Wishing the Cakewalk devs the best. Saddest news for them.

There aren't any pressing reasons to change.  SONAR ain't going anywhere fast - how could it - it is dead?  It works fine right now on win 7 and 10 and I've never used my DAW computer for games or porn and don't leave them hooked up to the internet.

I got Mixcraft because ... it looks simple to use and a lot like SONAR and uses standard PC formats.  And it is cheap back up and looks fun. I imagine I can learn enough about making music with it without switching full time until I get back projects done.  And then I'll see if it warrants switching over.

Sonar will still be my main DAW.

I have also bought Mixcraft 8 Pro to have as second and back up DAW.

in the 14 years I've posted here I don't think I've ever had a 4 page thread. :)
Thanks to all and mostly what I see is a positive "YES" we are the smart ones and we spend our money on Hardware , not more software. As I said, I'm looking forward to pullng the plug and just getting some recording done.
I worked last night on 38 backing tracks fine tuning them for 2 gigs we we have next week.
To think of getting that done on ANY other DAW would be impossible. ANd this is the heart of the matter and where we all part ways. WORKFLOW
For those who are saying they are experiencing faster workflows in other DAW's well there you go- That is obviously the best DAW for you no questions asked. And I am truthfully happy for all who who switch DAw's and find the grass is greener.

This is exactly why a lot of us will stay with Sonar. WORKFLOW

I myself cannot get by without many of the features that Sonar has that as far as I can tell no other DAW has all these features. The drag and drop audio to midi conversion alone rules out 90% of the contenders. All my backing tracks are depending on me playing a real bass and converting that to midi. Take me sooo little time. I don't have to worry about the real bass tone or even little mistakes, so one take and I'm done HUGE time-saver.
And I have many old projects that I use real drums on that I need to convert to midi as well. I don't think any other DAW has drum replacer.
And all the demos including Cubase.. where's the SMART TOOL?

There was a few who posted here asking questions about authorization and such. Please take the time to read some of the very detailed thread that cover these topics.

I'm calmed down now, after the first shock. I plan to stay/keep SPLAT going as long as I can.

I do have Mixbus4 and Presonus Studio One 3 (artist?) that came with my Fishman Triple Play, but have not used either.

I'm definitely staying with Sonar. Like most people have already stated it has everything I need and will be here for as long as I need it to be. I have other DAWS installed on my machine, but none of them even comes close to Sonar. Cakewalk has always been fantastic with their customer support and I have faith that they will not go away before leaving us with the tools we need to keep Splat running for many years to come! Be happy and ,make some awesome music!

I've been planning on staying and probably still will.

BUT I'm also thinking that when I'm ready to change the cross grade deals won't be as attractive so I do need to take this into account.

If I do buy another product then logically I'll start using it.

I already have unsupported hardware with drivers and another concern for me is that things that work for me now with Sonar might not work with a replacement.

Sadly we are all trying to make these important decisions under the wrong circumstances.

.... Except for Bars & Pipes on the Amiga ....

Whoa... That takes me back... Yeah and "me too" since the 90s. Having a whole bunch of DAWs if you're a professional might make sense (or not?), it's a bit like being quote "a full stack developer" unquote in IT. I'm PRV midi oriented & the latest Splat takes care of that, as for AE side, that will always have it's ongoing mysteries & iZotope helps smooth the way... It's that "uncaught exception" crash on a project load or some other glitch that now won't be addressed, which I can't figure out that bothers me... So hopefully a knowledgeable community will persist. The machine's w10 barely 2 years old with a ton of ram & disk space so until Splat commits Hara-Kiri or is done in by the latest MS update why waste another nickle and... As a purchaser of the lifetime updates, the "me too" in this context also refers to "corporate rape" and in the words of a rapist "So Sad"!
