Hi all,

As some of you know I did a lot of development on Pro Audio/Sonar over the years. I did move to a Mac Pro last year but still wanted access to a huge library of original music I created on the PC.

Sonar X2 works great under vmware fusion 5, but still need windows 8.

Now Im also in the process of taking this a step further for Rain and other Mac Sonar users! Within OSX we have something called "wineskin". This allows us to natively run PC programs and turn them into .apps. The great thing here is its all self contained, without the need for windows, vmware, bootcamp or parallels (Its also not a emulator)! Here is a video I did showing mIRC (PC only) in OSX.

I just started the process creating and setting this up, so Ill be working on getting Sonar X2 into a native Mac .app file and keep you posted.

Cool. Thanks!

Slightly OT question: what motivates one to have a Mac in the first place? What critical application is so indispensable that you'd suffer kludges to use one? Is it Logic?

I work in the video game, TV and motion picture industry here in Hollywood, Ca, (Both Set lighting 728 and Audio 695 unions). for my line on work, its simple. Compatibility with what I use on a daily basis.

CBS Radford, Disney, Paramount, Sony, Warner Bros, Fox, NBC are usually my playgrounds. The Mac Pro allows me to have the best of both worlds with software universal compatibility.

That is INSANELY cool, Scott!

Having to run Windows on my machine is the one thing which always prevented me from seriously considering getting back to Sonar as a secondary DAW, even if just to access my archives.

I hear you brother! Are you still using logic audio?

Yup.

Even if the transition from Sonar was rather smooth, obviously, when you've worked w/ a product for over 10 years, for a while at least, there are certain things that you miss.

But after 2 years and studying the certification book in my downtimes, I've reached a point where there really is no going back and I still constantly find little things that keep on making life easier.

I hear you Rain. One nice thing is, you can have access to both PC VSTs Mac and of course AUs within OSX.

This is great if you have a client working with other systems and needs a solid transfer without minimal compatibility hiccups.

Has anyone here besides Scott tried Sonar on a Mac using Fusion 5?
