Scott, I tried the Sonar utility program, but it  doesn't work for me.  The program seems to be outdated.  When asked to select Sonar version, I check the Producer button and an error message pops up and says "product type not found".  When I click on the version menu it is blank.  Do you have any advice?

At least that way DigiFreq gets some website exposure.

Thanks!

Hi Lynn,

No, the utility was created by someone else (it's not mine, I'm just hosting it on DigiFreq) and it hasn't been updated in a while. It may work and it may not. I don't know how to fix the problem if it's not working. Although, one thing comes to mind... are you signed in as an administrator in Windows? If not, that could cause the utility not to be able to access the Registry on a newer version of Windows.

Otherwise, there's also a manual procedure you can try...

No need to apologize. Everyone has their comfort level working with computers. There are three different solutions presented here for adding stuff to the SONAR Utilties Menu.

that's one thing I like about you cook. you never seem to take anything the wrong way and your always helping people here.
same goes for danny.

I just went to the Sonar page with the instructions for changing the registry to include SF.  I followed the instructions to a T, and no luck.  I know from past experience that there's a flaw in these instructions, and once upon a time, someone wrote out the entire process correctly, which worked for me in X1.  If someone could locate those instructions, it would be most helpful, otherwise, I'll keep looking.

Oh, I have been piqued a few times. There is little percentage in venting on the forum (although I have done that too). How could anyone get mad at Danny. It does appear that the vintage SonarUtils might not work in this case. Too bad, I had forgotten about it until Danny posted. I recall having it installed on one of my older machines. It was a handy tool. Well, there is still Duckbar. Overkill for this issue but it will do the job and provides some rollback capability.

The instructions are letter perfect. There is a typo in your registry, maybe a space in "Wave Editor" (wrong) instead of "WaveEditor" (right) if I were guessing
Here are my registry entries in export format (your SF path may be different):

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Tools Menu\Sound Forge]
"ExePath"="C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Sony\\Sound Forge Pro 10.0\\Forge100.exe"
"MenuText"="&Sound Forge"
"StatusBarText"="Run Sound Forge"
"Type"="WaveEditor"

This is what worked for me, based on the notes I kept when I edited the registry.

ExePath C:\Program Files(x86)\Sony\SoundForge Pro 10.0\Forge100.exe
MenuText Sound Forge Pro&10
StatusBar Text Run Sound Forge Pro 10 Audio Editor
Type WaveEditor

Are the quotation marks necessary?

No, that is what the registry export function spits out. Also you only need a single \ where you see \\ too, that is another part of the export function. Make sure that your values (without the quotes and double \) are the same. Alternately you could cut and paste the bottom of that post into a file with a .reg extension and then right-click on the file and merge it into the registry.

Scook, thanks for your quick replies.  I got SF to show up in the utilities menu, but even after highlighting an audio clip, it will not open SF.  I know I'm getting close.  What about spacing between the words in the registry file?  Space or no space?  How about capital letters?
