Greetings to all. Haven't had a question in a long time.
Everything here is running really smooth.
I know this has been talked about before, but can't seem to find it.
How do you move a song from X1 to X2?
Tried a few things. Just haven't hit the right one yet.

Thanks to all.

Can't you just open the project in X2?

That's kind of what I thought. Actually I thought I had lost the song. I searched everywhere for it. no luck. Then I thought I'd open X1, which is still on my machine, and lo and behold there was the song. Played it, tried to save it, tried to export it, From X2 tried to import it. Well, at least I found it. That's the important part. I will figure it out. Was just wondering if someone had a quick way. I may try saving it to my second studio drive and see if I can open it from there.
  Thanks

All you need to do is open it in X2. Of course you need to know where it is.

That's just it , John, I only find it residing in X1. It's almost comical.

A project does not reside in Sonar it resides on the hard disk. It is loaded from the HD into Sonar. Obviously it needs to be somewhere on the HD. Even if it were a default template that gets loaded when you start Sonar is still has to be on the HD to load.

Keeping all that in mind lets try and seek it out. First off what is its name? If you have a name for it you can find using windows search. However, it is most likely in a folder that was created when you installed X1. I would look in those places first such as C:Cakewalk Projects.

BTW the name will be listed in the window title bar when you load a project. So open it in X1 note the name and then look for it.

Doesn't Cake supply a tool called 'Cakewalk Audio Finder' for this very purpose?

Alternately: Start Menu>Search>"Your Song Title".

OR,

Open X1, go to EDIT>Preferences or just press 'P'.

Look for where your default Locations for file saving is and then go look for that file manually.

Files have been forward compatible form one version up to the next for quite a while now.

Sorry I never got back to the forum. I was away for a while on vacation.
Right before I departed I save the song as bundle to one the drives and then was able to find it and open in X2. Thanks for the responses.
     Also thanks to jimusic.

Glad you got it worked out. Bundles are unnecessary if you use per-project folders moving projects is as simple as copying a directory.
