I was wondering if I could take a SONAR project (or the MIDI tracks) and save the MIDI.... use a MIDI editor on a MAC to create the performance tracks, save them and load the MIDI tracks back into SONAR for mastering?

The reason I am curious is that when I am sitting home in front of the boob tube, I might be able to create more MIDI track performances for projects and then import the MIDI tracks into SONAR when I am in the studio?

Thanks in advance for any help,
Jim

You won't able to use the cakewalk project format, that is proprietary, but you could save the project in MIDI format and work with it that way.

Could I then import the MIDI tracks back into the CWP project?

I do not see why not. You have probably used MIDI files from the 'net without knowing what created them.

Just drag and drop the MIDI file into the Clips pane in the Track view. SONAR will automatically import the data and create new MIDI tracks.
