Well, to be fair, Cakewalk announced the SP1 requirement for Win 7 up front, and explained it nicely, and it also works fine on Windows 8, and there has been plenty of discussion here in the forum suggesting that folks do their homework on their particular gear working with either version of Windows.

I would also much rather Cakewalk drop support for the older Windows versions, enabling cleaner code moving forward, AND allowing more resources to be devoted to us still waiting for the next version or maintenance release to appear (because they have their developers working on fixes and new features, rather than having to continue to provide support for older OS versions).

Course, the above is simply my puffed up chest billowing out irrelevant whatevers on the whole matter, so feel free to ignore me. :)

In this case I think you hit the nail on the head. The obvious question is how far back should CW go? There has to be a point when obsolete OSs are no longer supported. XP is a good point and even Vista too. Why is because XP is old in a number of ways. Vista is not up to par with being able to utilize touch. Where Both Windows 7 and 8 can work with touch.

I am a strong former user of Vista. I liked everything about it. But I could see the writing on the wall when Windows 8 came out. I took advantage of the low cost of upgrading and haven't looked back.

We as users need to stay at least somewhat current unless we have other priorities.

Thanks for the input.  There is a lot of information on which I had to chew.  I discussed the option with the person who sold me my computer (with specifications in mind) and I was encouraged to go with Windows 7.  However, (per his advice) prior to doing that, I am going to expand the RAM.

Now, I've noticed there are different versions of Windows 7 as there are of Windows 8.  For an example, there is Windows 7 Home Premium and Professional Upgrade.  Is there any difference in these if I were to upgrade to Sonar X2?  (Currently, I've got the XP Home Premium.)
