Loptec

long time since we saw any new prochannel modules..

I want more!
(being able to creating PC-fx chains is nice, but it's not the same.. no meters or graphical feedback and so on)

Come on Cakwalk! Give us more! :) Pro Channel's got so much potential and I'm a bit suprised that it was so long since we saw something new released to this...!

What new PC-modules whould you guys like to see?

  • First of all what I'd really like to see is an update for the quad-eq. It would be nice to be able to switch on and off a spectrum overlay for instant visual feedback of the signal.
  • A nice tape emulation would be nice too, I think.. (We've got the Console Emulator. Why not continue this chain?)
  • A nice little delay also would be nice, I think.. :)
  • And it would be REALLY cool if we could get a competent frequency analyzer! :) (maybe even make the visual feedback vertical to give a more detailed view of the signal.. kind of like the pic below .. and maybe be able to switch to a mixed left-right-view that uses the whole horisontal space for the dB-axis. (sorry about the ugly example.. I just got the idea and threw something together just to show what I mean before I have to leave..)

I agree. I'm learning to love the prochan more and more for its speed. Presets are going to save me SO much time to to get my usual snare, kick, vox, guitar etc chain primed and ready to tweak. I've got 9 songs soon to be ready for mixing and I can't wait to get started!

I love your ideas. Especially on the delay. I didn't think about that. That would be fantastic.

My vote (which I've been saying for a while) is for a Pultec emulation. I love the sound of that eq on drums and bass.

I honestly think they know they are onto something here and we are going to keep seeing more and more cool stuff popping up. I'm sure we'll see some pleasant surprises in the next installment and I can't wait to see what they are!

Keep the ideas coming! It's like dreaming about what you'd do if you won the lotto :)

I'd like to be able to see the Pro Channel modules.

They seem so tiny compared to the stuff that has a full size VST window.

I really like the newer VSTs with the scalable windows... so I can make the gui as large as I want.

Maybe someday Pro Channel modules can pop open in their own full size window when you double click on a "full size" button or something like that.

I'd like to see more, too.

I love the tape emulation idea especially, loptec.

And + lots to the Pultec, too.

I like the layout of he current modules as they are, and have no problem seeing them.  If you struggle to see them on a 30" and 2560 x 1600 pixels monitor, Mike, then I think it must be a pebkac error.  Perhaps have an eye test.

But then again, you don't use the X series, just 8.5 legacy, and didn't install all the modules when you did.  I love an informed, unbiased opinion.

Me too, and I think we will. They seem to have comitted to the Pro Channel so surely more are coming.

@ Mike... this should help

I fully understand where people are coming from about the remarks from Mike.  But he does have a point as far as the Quad EQ is concerned. It could use a pop out grid that was enlarged for more accurate adjustment.

A good idea is a good idea no matter where it comes from.

All these are good ideas - some kind of microscope function for the eq esp. would be nice.  It does make you use your ears more, but I still like to see stuff.

Cake has done a good job starting.  The FET is good, the eq is very good and the opto comp is great.  The ssl channel is ok tho I don't use it much, but the ssl bus comp is very good.

The rest of the marketable modules are a pultec and maybe neve eq.  I'm not really into digital saturation whether channel or tape.  To my ears, they just cloud up the image, but each to his own.  However, Cake should leverage Roland for time-based effects, which is the weak sister so far.  My Nomad Blue Tubes is getting glitching at 32 bits, and the Sonitus is long in the tooth, too.  A chorus/echo module would be uber cool.  vocoder.  Stuff like that.

The local rep here was begging Cake/Roland for that, and we users seconded him.  Hopefully they are working on it.  It would be a sure-fire seller, esp. if a vst version was for sale too.

I guess if I want a more detailed graph, I use a different EQ, perhaps in an PC FX chain.

I always thought of the quad curve as more like the EQ on a large format desk, which had no graph at all.  The little one was just a bonus.

I have nothing against a pop out grid, though.

Mike could have his pop out VSTs if he used The PC FX Chains, but as he didn't buy X2, and only wishes to make illinformed swipes at the X series, perhaps he wouldn't know that.
