I already tried the searching but nothing specifically related to the real world differences that I am asking about...

TBH as a user ( I am assuming) I would have thought it just as easy to post a brief opinion instead of spending time finding threads...

Anyhoo thanks for those links, they DID not come up in my search here on the forum, I got everything but...

Yep as I thought, nothing in those threads to answer the question "what can this pack do that is not already IN X2"

So still no real answer, but thanks for the effort.

So I guess with all the tools already in Sonar that apparently do the same job as these (no one has posted anything to say different), I can save my money :)

Cheers

To be honest joden, it's kind of a case where if you have to ask that question in the first place, you probably won't have much need just yet. As for differences...

Boost vs concrete - boost doesn't sound very good. You can limit softly and it might sound clean, but try to go medium or heavy limiting and it just sounds pumpy and distorted. Concrete limiter just limits without these bad artifacts unless you push it much harder. It will limit your audio much more than you can with boost.

PC2A is just a different sounding compressor. It's very smooth and reacts differently to different material sources in a nice way. It's based of the LA2A. Look it up for an idea of what sound it gives. If you don't have a good grasp on compressors, it probably won't be a lot of use to you, though it is very easy to use, so in that case could be better for a beginner.

You get the idea about the other two. Like the PC2A, they just give a different sound for the more experienced engineer to work with.

If you would take the time to read about them and view the vids you would know what they offer. There is a demo too of the Ca 2a.

They are modeled after consoles that a lot of people like. The leveling compressor is unique and is modeled after a optical type compressor.

Plus they are meant for the PC as modules.  This means they are also good to be placed on all tracks and buses.

I gave you a quick run down on and although it is correct it does do any of them justice or go in to detail.

I have them all and I like them.

Thanks John and Matt -

That is the sort of info I was after...I am on a very tight budget (like most of us I guess) so I really wanted to gauge peeps opinions on the gear first.

I have a basic grasp of what this stuff does, and tbh I thought a compressor is a compressor is a compressor...but clearly not..

So in effect you are saying I can do all the stuff using built-ins if I choose and they would be okay, but these will do the job better and give a more "polished" result....yes?

If it is a budget issue, learn the plugins you have. You can go far with the plugins included in SONAR. There are a lot to learn. The Sonitus plugins cover a lot of territory. Also working a while with what you have might give you a better idea of what you may want supplement. Many third party plugins (and some CW plugs too) have demos so that you can evaluate how they impact your workflow. Additional plugins may add color or help you achieve results faster. That is about it.
