maybe include the old 'onboard' Boost 11 on the comparing session.
who knows it does great, you save bucks and feel like a smart guy (tell me what is was like please).

Another vote for the Concrete Limiter.  It works so well!

Love the the Concrete Limiter.
 
I realy like the Bass Boost switch.  It stops the low ends triggering the limiter, and adds saturation to them instead.  Great on drums or bass.

when on a budget / other things on wishlist....if you take Boost 11 just for limiting and tweak your favorite prochannel compressor well, you don't NEED any extra limiter.

I don't know why you insist on praising Boost 11 but in the above statement you are wrong. Concrete Limiter is worlds better than Boost 11. Thus if one has CL I suggest using it and not using Boost 11.

Gotta say, I've had Boost 11 since it came out and have never been a fan.

Boost 11 can sometimes work well on bass.   It adds just a little extra crunch at the right settings.  
 

Reading this makes me think we should have a topic regarding all of the old plugs that have since been "superseded." I say superseded but that is, of course, wrong, simply because we all have a choice to use what ever tools come in the box. But I've recently "upgraded" to W8 and I'm taking a lot more time than usual actually firing up each and every effect and synth, just to a) see if it works okay and b) what is it.

I notice that some of the older plugs are a bit more CPU hungry, and the interfaces are dated, although still functional, and in many cases, many have been improved upon, either by other "in the box" tools from Cakewalk or by third party tools I have since purchased.

Anyway, back on topic, and in the meantime I'll think about starting another, similar topic

Mostly use a limiter to just kill excessive peaks, Boost 11 or probably any onboard limiter are good for me.
To my ears adding a compressed portion to a dry portion sounds most natural and best, I would not use a limiter as a compressor.
But that's just another opinion, not the truth....go for what sounds best for you.

When on a budget, there are free limiters that do a MUCH better job than Boost11. For example, this little guy which is modelled off the Waves L1 limiter, which is miles in front of Boost11 and in the same league as Concrete Limiter. YMMV. If you don't want to buy CL, I'd suggest checking this boy out. The interface is terrible, but the sound is pretty good I think. I've only given it a short amount of use, so I'd love to hear anyone else's opinion on it.

The problem with Boost11 is even subtly, it just SOUNDS compressed and pumpy and distorted. If you want that sound, it might be suitable, but 99 times out of 100, concrete limiter will be the optimal choice. If you're trying to do very heavy compression and trying to be as transparent as possible, 100 times out of 1, Concrete Limiter will KICK Boost11's ass.
