W1 is not bad, other no cost limiters I would look at would be LoudMax and Limiter6. Toneboosters Barricade is a decent low-cost solution.

There are very good limiters available. In the past I used Ozone's limiter but ever since PC I wanted a PC limiter. When CW offered the CL I was very pleased. The fact that its also is a great sounding module has made me rethink using Ozone. I still use it for its other mastering modules but limiting I leave to the CL.

Boost 11 seems to be more material-dependent.  If I have a song with few dynamics, it can work fairly well.  It does not sound natural for me on a song that starts out sparse (guitar and voice, for example) and then builds.

Lately I have been using EZMix 2 with a mastering pack add-on.  There are some good lift and limiting options.
