This is something I never figured out in my old version of Sonar either.  How do I set a time as the end of the song so that it doesn't just keep playing once the music ends, but more importantly so that it doesn't bounce down all of the silence after the music ends.

Thanks in advance.

You need to go into the options menu and select "Stop at project end" . That should take care of the problem.

Thanks Danny, I checked this, but is there a setting somewhere where you can designate a certain time to be the end?  Even with this setting checked, my project keeps playing, it doesn't seem to know that the song is over even though all of the audio and midi clips are over.

There is no end of song setting. I always select a range when exporting.

I actually would like to change the end time.  Example:  When exporting, I don't want the wav to stop abruptly and cut off the reverb.  I can fake things out by putting a silent note a bar farther out, but would prefer just to change the end point.

Are you saying when highlighting for export, I can extend the selection beyond the end of the song?

Here is what I do to make this super easy and lightning fast...

I assign key commands to Previous marker and next marker.

I assign key commands to Select from and Select Through

I create a marker at the point where I would like my export to end. I can create different points if I want depending on different purposes.

I hit Ctrl + A to select all

I then use my key commands to zoom around to the markers I want.

I can then use my key commands to select the beginning and ending of my export.

This is done in seconds and works like a charm. I absolutely love it.

I use the same method as Sylvan, placing markers at the start and end points and selecting that range when exporting. This gives you precise control over where the song ends so you can leave room for reverb tails and long fades, eliminates dead space or count-in from the beginning and saves having to trim the audio later.

I did suggest a feature request years ago for adding properties to markers so that they could be designated as "start-of-song", "end-of-song" or perhaps other special roles. It could be implemented in the existing marker dialog and simply override the calculated start and end times. At the time Noel said it was a "good idea". But it was never implemented. Maybe someone should re-submit it.
