Kind of a dumb question but I just realized I may have been eating up drive space unnecessarily while creating versions. For example: Track Clean Up, Drum Edits Done, Rhythm Guit Mixed, etc. I've had Copy All Audio selected and have had to point to the desired audio folder when doing a Save As every time but now I think that's doubling up the original waves each time I do. Is this what it does? I mean that's great for major milestones and back up but for mundane steps I just want to point to the original audio. Thanks in advance and I hope you all had a good weekend. I save new project files in the same folder. There is no limit to the number of projects in a folder associated with the same audio subdirectory. No need to do a full save as to a different folder with audio copy everytime.

Yes, and put the project in the same folder as the original. That way all the projects associated with the audio subdirectory are in one place making it easy to backup the whole thing. When you want a clean snapshot of the audio directory is when you would do a save-as to a different project directory with the copy audio option enabled.

I only use that when I save to a new place. This is in conjunction with the it set to Per Project audio folder. I have this set in Preferences.  Preferences > File - Audio Data. 

Thanks. Yeah I usually keep everything in the same folders no matter what. Kind of a silly thing for me not to know but I got all messed up with some of the saving procedure threads we have. I still find the file hierarchy stuff a little confusing but I'm starting to get it. You'd be impressed at how cluttered I've made some systems in the past just by being a derp. lol

It's gonna be a lot of work wiping and reinstalling everything though and I should probably get a third drive for sample libraries before I start. Cheers.

One thing you can do to save a lot of reinstall is read up on the DOS mklink command. You can use "mklink /j" to create pointers across drives and move directories around easily, eliminating the need to reinstall or mess with the registry.

Well there are some other mistakes I made with the initial build like installing freaking AISuiteII which refuses to uninstall. I kind of want to go through the whole process again as well for the experience. That way I can be a little more confident building another system for myself or friends and repairing my current one. Anyway thanks guys, gonna go poke away at things a little more. I have to go set up the project to my liking, review the material more closely and do some extract/manipulate tempo stuff which I just figured out how to do properly. This program really keeps surprising me in what it can do. Freaking life saver really. Cheers.

Each time I build a new computer I refine my way of setting things up. I too started with stuff all over the place. But that was a long time ago back in the DOS days and early Windows days. 

Now I try to think before I do anything. Believe it or not that does help. At present I have 6 HD in my system. Two are in the front with drive bay drawers that make them removable. One is the system disk and the other is a data disk. The internal HDs are also data disks.

Over the years I have copied folders so that my CW projects are more or less backed upped.

As I run out of space I get a new large HD.
