I would pay a maintenance subscription to get routine updates to fix small issues. I would pay as much as $10/mo for that ($120/yr), and should there be new features for the next version? What if I don't want them? I can just keep paying for my subscription and keep getting updates on the version I use. Now THAT's wisdom. Cisco Systems in the Tech World succeeded in a major way using that method. I mean, MAJOR way!

A BIG +1 to this.
Well said.

Every time I see the old familiar bugs in SONAR 8.5.3 Classic I think about how nice it would be to get those bugs fixed.

I'd pay for that.

Since I tweaked the Aud ini file X2a is really stable for me . I like X2 , I don't want to mess it up now.

Me too. I really wish they would support each version for at least 2 years with bug fixes and such.
Again, no money in that so just pay for our new version with new bugs.

Interesting...

My gut keeps nagging.. "Cakewalk is no longer a company, only a product line of Roland who will do with it as they do all things Roland"...

Reality? Hard to say, but it even looks like a piece of Roland gear now...

I too still see 8.5.3 as a classic... Sure it has bugs, but I can work quickly and efficiently... Not so for me with X... If they had left layers and simply added all the other things, I might ave been fine, but Lanes and all the zoom issues has made my work slw and tedious...

Too bad there's not more of e as maybe they would release Sonar 9 which would have all the new tools such as ProChannel, but in the 8.5.3 GUI for those of us not moving to touch anytime soon...

Touch seems to ave put the "evil" touch on my work stream... ;-)

X2b or not to be?

The longer they wait/take, the more unhappy campers start to drift away from the fold...

Hopefully the longer they take means the more stable it'll be.

Agreed, but I will also agree that they shouldn't sit on it too terribly long. If it means getting more people in to finish sooner, then that's fine.

And I do wonder myself whether Cakewalk is indeed still a separate company only parented by Roland. My perception is it's not any longer, but the faceplate is still there in an attempt to have us believe it is.
