I have a file with 13 MIDI tracks.  I've noticed a few times where one of the tracks (track 9) seems to be missing.  I see it in the track view, but when I open the event list, pick track 8 and then pick "next track", it goes to track 10, completely missing track 9!  Same in staff view, it labels tracks #9, 10, 11,12 and 13 as being tracks #10, 11, 12, 13, 14, even though they are labeled correctly in the track view.
 
The data in track 9 seems to be gone too.  One other weird thing:  When I use copy and paste to paste data from track 8 to track 9, nothing happens, it doesn't paste it.  When I try copying and pasting to another track, it works fine.  It's as though track 9 doesn't exist, although I see it clearly in the track view.
 
Since this piece has very little data, I just deleted the track and created a new one.  But if I had a hundred measures of music and this happened (although I backup regularly), this could be very damaging. 
 
If anyone knows anything about this, please let me know. I've already contacted Cakewalk about it.

I dimly remember something like this happening to me on one prior project - I too think I ended up having to recreate the track, although some tiny part of my brain is trying to convince the rest of my brain that I was able to fix this.

Is it possible that you created the particular track with Step Sequencer, using a drum map?  If so, all kinds of crazy nutty stuff happens when you try to look at the data or edit it.  I came to find out that they deliberately designed Step Sequencer to NOT like drum maps, and my fix for THAT track was to bounce all of the midi clips on the track down to another midi track, eliminating all of the Step Sequencer clips and turning it into a giant regular midi track.

Doing the above instantly resolved that issue, and I never again used Step Sequencer with any drum maps and have never had that sort of issue since.

I do not know if that issue is the same one I was dimly remembering at the top, but for sure the details of the drum map + SS issue are correct.

I hope any of the above made any sense whatsoever, and hope if that is what is causing your troubles that it fixes it for you.

No, the track wasn't created using the step sequencer.  In fact, the track only had initial controller changes in it, no notes yet.  It's happened twice.  It is possible that it is user error, but doubtful because when I tried to copy and paste into the track in question, nothing would paste. I'd have to either enter the controllers again manually or delete the track and re-create it.  I think it is a bug, and a serious one that compromises data integrity. 
 
If Cakewalk doesn't address this I remove X2 from my DAW and go back to Sonar 7.

That's the issue, the track IS visible on the track view.  The contents of the track are gone and attempting to paste anything into it fails.   It's as though Sonar is not recognizing the track. Specifically, track #9 is clearly visible in the track view, but when I am in the event list and am looking at the contents of track #8, and choose "pick next track", it skips #9 and shows instead the contents of track #10.  And yet there it is, clear as day, in the track view.  Same in the staff view, track 8 and 10 are there, but not #9.  I am trying to figure out what steps I might have taken to create this scenario so I can file a report to CW, but am not sure.

I've learned a little more about this MIDI track bug. 
 
Occasionally, and I don't know what operations are bringing this about, I "lose" a MIDI track.
 
I have a file with 13 tracks, all visible in the track view, none hidden.  When I select track #9 and open either the event list or the staff view, track #9 is missing.  The staff view labels tracks 9-13 wrongly, it labels them 10-14 (there is no 14th track).  The event list, when choosing "pick next track" or "pick previous track", simply bypasses track #9, going from #8 to #10.   Weird. 
 
BUT, I've learned the data is not lost.  If I simply change the sort order of tracks 9 and 10, placing 10 above 9 and then back again, everything returns to normal, no lost or corrupted data.  When the track is "missing", it still can be played with keyboard and I am hearing the sound of that track. 
 
Software, like humans, is imperfect.  I hope CW fixes it.

On the right hand side of the piano roll you should be able to see all of the midi tracks which you want to view. Each track can be toggled on or off independently. Perhaps you have selected the track ok but the events are being hidden as a result of the toggle being in the wrong state?

That could be a possibility but would that explain why the event list and staff view are numbered incorrectly? This bug is definitely not a show-stopper, there is no loss of data, as I mentioned above the workaround is quite doable. I will verify about what you're referring to but it seems unlikely because of the error in track numbering...
