Hi all!  Man it's been nearly 2 years since I last recorded a tune I think.  Anyway, here is my latest attempt...called "Ethereal Funk".  Check it out and let me know what you think.
I played everything you hear, and used X3 to record with.  Used Ozone 5 on the Mastering.  Tried to maintain nearly original dynamic range on this one, and did not get into "loudness wars" territory like I have in the past.
Had fun with a couple of new guitars.

Here it is:

Great!  I am a sucker for that type of guitar tone.

J Mas-  The main guitar is the Ibanez AFJ-95 Jazz Hollowbody I picked up on Clearance at Guitar Center for $350.   Super sweet guitar!  The other guitars were a Gibson Larry Carlton 335 for the wah-wah parts and a Laguna LE-924 Greg Howe model for the other parts.

Tony this has a very nice groove from the off and the mix comes across nicely open and with the clean sense of air.

Cool tone on the lead as well, thanks for sharing

this is waaaaaaay up my street. Love especially the little things whipping around the panning field in the breakdown.

Great inside/outside guitar improv!!!! I really like the center section after the breakdown.

For the "a" part that comes first and third, I found myself wanting another solo voice than just you guitar (which is excellent btw) - maybe a sax or an organ/piano - something where they could play off of each other. ?

cool outtro wah solo.

man, this hits it.

cheers,
-Tom

Tom-  Thanks for the great review my friend!  You really got the tune!  I wrestled a LOT with the idea of using an organ in parts 1 and 3 (especially 3)...but ultimately wound up with solo guitar since I have been bound and determined to see if I could record a "guitar tune".  LOL  The 2 acoustic guitar parts (one strumming, the other playing a figure) are actually "loops", but all the other guitars are me.

I like eclectic sorts of things and this one just hit me when I heard the little "flute sounding" loop at the beginning of the tune.  Add the wahwah was a blast to record.  The "inside/outside" thing was also an adventure for me...trying to use a scale or 2 I've recently learned.

I don't know of anyone using an iZotope "BreakTweaker" or Heavyocity "DM-304" (both drum/beat/percussion modules) yet, but that's what you hear in the breakdowns and at the tail end.  They are pretty cool plugins.

Wookie-  Thanks for the comments.  I purposely attempted to give this tune "air" and space for each "performer"...unlike my usual "wall-of-sound" style of arranging.  I think it worked.  LOL

And in addition to the Soundcloud link above,  I just put this tune on You Tube as well.  Here's a link to it.  There are a few interesting details in the vid.

Very nice Tony! I too really enjoy your guitar work in this. The groove is excellent as well. The hi hat sounds a little too up front to me, but that's a minor thing.

Regards,
Dan
