Hi guys,
first, I'm not fond of the drum intro.  just my personal preference.
when the vox first come in, they're covered up by the instruments which are fading out.
I think overall you're squishing it too much, I'd back off of the limiter some and let it breathe a little.
I'd also balance the vox and the other instruments a little better, anytime the the drums are doing fills and/or the synth is playing fills/solo at the same time the vox are singing, the vox get buried.
 
everything is a little too "wet" for my taste also.  I'd back off of the verb some on everything, or at least cut the muddiness of the verb by bandwidth limiting it.
 
you waited a long time to introduce the guitar... I think I would have brought it in sooner, it's pretty sweet sounding, maybe let the guitarist and the synth player trade off fill solos.

Fun! Old timey vibe, at least I think so. I pictured a '50's doo-wop more than indie Americana, whatever that is . . .
 
My guess is, 99% of listeners would recommend dropping the four bars (four?) of just drums at the top.
I'd just start the synth line played once, then boom! vocal time!
 
speaking of the vocal, it's pretty decent, but to thicken it just a bit, you could resing it, compress a lot, then add it in at a lower volume than your lead. Just an idea for you .. .
 
and, harmonies, please!  some "shoo be doo wap" or even some nice sustained "ooooohs" would fill the end of the phrases, and sure would mix nice with your excellent ride cymbals . . .
 
that psychedelic guitar stuck out a bit loud . . .

I've been listening to your songs from the git-go, and I can hear the improvement in your mixes with this.  This may be the first song from you that doesn't immediately sound over-compressed to my ears.  There's more breathing room in this mix than in many mixes.  That means one can listen to this over and over without getting ear fatigue.  The organ sounds good in this and is mixed tastefully.  You're at the point, now, where you can start to consider the possibilities of the arrangement.  This is where personal taste comes into play.  The one thing that sticks out to me is the lack of surprise or element of emotion in the lead vocal.  Now that your mixes are getting better, these two points become more important in the long run.  All in all, this is a song that I want to like (and do), yet it's still missing something in the recording process.  I believe that you're on the right track, though.

Very nice stuff. I like the harmonica playing a lot. Maybe it is a bit long for some so perhaps you could do a radio edit for the impatient listeners. Keep the good stuff coming.

Count me in the 1% then, I liked that intro, it sets up the atmosphere nicely. Cool, poignant song. Nice one.

As noted above the vocal could do with a tad more emotion overall this one of your better mixes though that guitar is a little loud.  The length will be a problem for some and a radio mix is probably a good idea.

FWIW: I too struggle with getting the emotion out when I sing.

Well, I, for one, like it, including the brief drum intro that reminds me of Bowie's "Five Years". The song is an effective reminder of an unpleasant sensation I bet we've all known. If the vocal is a bit uninflected, well, I've felt that after a heartbreak too, so it might just fit. Well done.
