  • Can you "flip" an automation envelope?

I just got Vocal Rider, being aware of its non-sidechainability in SONAR due to lack of VST3.

Wondering if there were workarounds, it occurred to me that if you could "flip" the volume envelope on the vocal track and apply it to your "rest of the music" bus you "kinda sorta" could maybe get a comparable result as with side-chaining.  Or not--but maybe part of the way there.

I was also thinking that you can change midi controllers to an envelope--can you do the reverse?  (As this might be part of the workaround, if any, perhaps with some CAL program to flip the controllers).

So, I don't know of a way to actually flip the envelope...

But if
- it is a volume envelope where it is entirely between 0 and - inf (nothing above 0)
- you clone 2 tracks and flip the phase of 1 of the 2 tracks. They have to be panned identically.
- put one track volume fader at 0
- copy the other track volume fader (the one you want to reverse to the other track...

Now, the volume should go up and down exactly opposite the fader.

I suppose it goes without saying, but if it is a pan envelope, you could flip it by using channel tools to reverse left and right.

Hmmm...ok, I'll try that.  Thanks.

Run it out a virtual MIDI cable, and record it coming back in to another MIDI track.
