  • SONAR X2a stops responding at the end of an export

SONAR X2a stops responding at the end of an export, and stays there. If I click in the screen, that white haze comes in. It lasts a long time.

What gives? It is only sometimes when I have a hug project to bounce like the 84 track session I had to send off last night. Sitting there for 90 minutes trying to get an export to work is not acceptable.

Anybody had this issue and have any ideas?

I am not using any particular plugins thatI do not use on other machines.

I was doing it in 64 bit SONAR and I have 16 gigs of ram, so that is not an issue.

I am all in the box, no UAD cards or anything like that.

Are you sure you are at the end of export and hanging? One alternative scenario to consider is that the bounce is just taking a very long time, rather than done and hang. If you have audible bounce enabled or fast bounce disabled, the export would be expected to last as long as the project, during which time you would expect Sonar to be unresponsive.

I tried audible, and the guitars were not playing during it, which worried me.

It could be taking a very long time but at the end of the export only when it is almost complete, like 99%. It shouldn't take son long on such a beast of a machine.

Thinking that David may have hit it.  I once did audio-snap adjustments on a bunch of tracks on a seven minute song.  It took over two hours to process all of the audio each time I tried to export.  Solution was to either freeze all tracks before exporting or to bounce all tracks with Audio-snap while working in a project.

Export isn't done until the time comes back on the control panel.

No audiosnap, but I could frezxe stuff.

Thing is I cannot freeze some tracks because Im sidechaining, and I rmember the side chain pump effect not working when I freeze if Im correct as 2 tracks are working together on those through the compressor side chain.

I shouldn't have to freeze anything to export. That is unacceptable wouldn't you agree?

Either way, I am all about solutions!

I am not bagging Cakewalk. I pretty much have an endorsement with them and have an artist feature on here for AristoTrax. I am a SONAR fanboi lol.

I know Sonar very well and the time it is taking or hanging simply should NOT happen, period. 2 minutes max at the end is lenient, after it took a long time for the export to say it is at the end only not to be.

Yup. Happens to me fairly often. I think it has something to do with plugins which employ oversampling, esp. when different plugs are oversampling at different rates.

Are You using any 32bit plugs?

Lance - every track that you have that requires rendering in real time will add the total project time to the time required for the export.  Let's assume that you are doing a five minute project.  Two sidechain tracks would require the export to take (as a minimum) ten minutes.  Turn off all of your plugs and effects and it will probably export in less than a minute.

The number of tracks that force sonar to render in real time multiply the export time by the project time times the number of these effect tracks.  Audio-snap is not the only effect that will force real-time mix-down for a track.

This isn't unique to Sonar.  Might be time to review the plugins you are using for more current 64 bit versions, but you might just have to live with an hour long export.

How can a project "play" back in real time but require more than real time to export?

That doesn't make sense.

Either the computer can process the audio, and the mix, in real time... or you are not hearing what you export.

It is probably just something wrong with X2.

It is probably just something wrong with X2.
One tiny little thing that was overlooked is that alogrithms are different during playback then the ones used for mixing down a project.

Playback of time stretched, V-Vocal, pitch shifted, and audio snap clips use crappy alogrithms while playing back a project so the clips can be played in real time.

Also, many Vsti and Vsts use less CPU intensive alogrithms while playing a project then they do when mixing down the project.

It is usually best to bounce to clips any clips that are edited, and freeze synths so that you can actually hear everything in it's highest quality.

I don't disagree that there may be a problem with Sonar X2 but I would first be looking at the above items first.
