  • Sonar Creating Hundreds of New Tracks! Help....

Couldn't find this by searching, so here it is: I'm a longtime Sonar user. I have Sonar 8.5 (both 32 & 64 bit), and X2 Producer (32 & 64) installed on a PC with Win 7 Pro. No problems using any of them for a long time.
Today, it suddenly got weird.
This happens in ALL versions:
If I open a session it will open, and then will begin adding Audio Tracks. I have to ESC and stop the program, and choose to NOT SAVE the session. I've let it run a few times, finally stopping it after it had created over 600 new tracks. I have no idea how many it would eventually create, until it crashed.
If I create a new session, it gives me a messagebox asking which type of file I want to create: Audio, or MIDI. It will not let me escape out of the box, but requires a choice. After that... hundreds of tracks created until I stop it.
Any ideas? It's been working flawlessly for months. I have no clue as to what INI or Config settings I should be looking at... any help is much appreciated.
Thanks in advance, and I'll try to let you know if I find a cure.
best,
john

Weird.

A key binding to insert tracks + a stuck key on your querty keyboard?

A malformed template loading on startup?

well, for now it seems to have cured itself. I didn't reboot the computer. Just restarted Sonar a few times (using various versions... X2, 8.5, etc), and eventually it just opened as normal.

@Scook: that's exactly what I thought at first... a stuck key. but nope....

@ slartabartfast: while it was creating tracks I was able to click on the top menu, so I looked at my key bindings. I've always used ALT-A as "Insert Audio Track". I disabled that, but it didn't make any difference. And now that I've re-enabled it, it still doesn't seem to.

I looked at all my devices in Windows Device Mgr, but couldn't see anything wrong. When I'm using a DAW I shut down all my extraneous tasks, such as wireless, webcam, virus checker, etc, so nothing much else is running in the background.

Well, if it starts creating tracks again, I'll be back [grin]  Thanks for the suggestions.
