among 3rd party plugins, chainer  ( http://www.xlutop.com/html/chainer.html ) can stack several other vst  instruments inside it , when loaded as a instrument in sonar . i think energyxt can do this too and more .

I didn't know one could (should) mix ASIO and WDM. I'll try it.

Loaded LoopBe1, I see it in the system tray. I load 2 instruments, set up a separate MIDI track. Record some MIDI on that track. Now I want to send that MIDI data to the 2 instrument tracks. Where/how does LoopBe1 work from here? I read the 'manual' but no real clues in there that I can find.

Sukant,

About the only way I've been able to do this effectively and with any stability and with more simplicity than creating multiple tracks is with Energy XT. For me, XT is a core component if using Sonar if you are using keyboards. Load XT, import as many synths as required, as many effects as required, control the volumes and stereo location from the internal mixer. This is all one one track now. Fortunately with stability improvement in 8.5 forward, multiple hosting within a host is not crashing as much.

XT does not load dx/dxi effects, so free dxishell is required for dxi synths. FFX4 is required for dx effects. (Don't use the included dxshell for dx effects or you will create a real mess)

One bummer, I can't get dxishell to work in Sonar X1. Maybe others can.  XT still works solid here with X1.

Running multiple synths from a single track has been a longstanding rational request, so far not implemented. This lack of function more than anything else keeps me having to supplement Sonar with other programs.

Friends,

Afterthought…

Another maybe anciently bump’d  patch to the problem, but should be in the face of anyone struggling with this shortfall.

High, subtle Sonar user, barely speaks a word of English, but the only musician I’ve ever had the grace to encounter whose slow acoustic slide guitar has ever saved a life. Don’t know if any one of us can claim that.

Reminded me in fractures English that multiple synths can be loaded with Console. A bit fragile for my liking, but works and imports dxi/dx standard, negating the need for the respected offering by the Buzz folks for dxshell and the possible incompatibility with X1..

Advice is to try the outdated demo. Progress died some years ago, suspended beta is all that’s there. Struggle through with, and scan all vst directories from the standalone version before launching in Sonar. If you can get it launched without crashing standalone, it will solidly import anything you can throw at it. Kontakt going into Synth1 going into Cellofan, going into Dim Pro, going into SamplaTank, etc, etc, etc. Many synths per single track. This is an option to the Energy XT route.

If you try this, there is a global stereo mixer. This does not address the need for individual volume/pan for individual synths. This can be addressed properly and freeware by inserting the fine free Sonalkus amp and mixer per track on each synth.

Damn, this is elegant. Does this work or not?…

Peace, tranquility, hope, and a blessed holiday to all of you warriors.

John

MidiOX lets you define one input midi port (your controller or a midi track of Sonar) and send it to multiple output ports.

MidiYoke creates multiple virtual midi in-out ports to be used by applications.

Combined you can set them as:

controller midi out -> MidiOX in -> MidiYoke 1
                                                 -> MidiYoke 2
                                                 -> MidiYoke x

You can then control with live with your controller x number of virtual synths

ALSO you can use it as:

Sonar midi out -> MidiYoke 1 in -> Midi Yoke 1 out -> MidiOX -> MidiYoke2
                                                                                               ->MidiYoke3
                                                                                                ->MidiYoke x
Thus controlling with a midi track in Sonar (set to send midi to Midiyoke 1) x-1 number of midi tracks

notice: MidiYoke can give you up to 16 virtual midi ins-outs
warning: each midi in-out of MidiYoke takes one second to be closed so expect to see delays of x seconds (where x is the number of midiYoke ports set) whenever you close Sonar
The number of Yoke ports can be set in control panel of windows -> MyyokeNT and requires a Windows restart

Both applications tested in windows XP sp2 32bit
MidiYoke tested in Windows 7 64bit and runs perfectly

Its easy to do. You just have to make sure each track has Input Echo enabled.

I think multiple midi outs from one MIDI track will be great feature. I hope CW will do this soon.

The current solution is use a third party virtual MIDI cable.
