i did the research, or so i thought. everyone remarked at how good the samples sound, how natural the grooves are... yes, a few crashes here and there, but not a showstopper.

so i plunked down my $99. just goes to show the difference between googling "ssd4 crashes sonar" and "ssd4 crashes."

long story short: it crashes sonar x2a intermittently. sometimes i can get actual work done, as yesterday i worked for 20 minutes without a crash, then, other times, clicking on a groove or loading a new kit crashes sonar.

cw can't help, won't help, even though they are aware that this piece of sw is buggy, in fact, one cw tec told me that most of the tech support calls deal with this bogus piece of sw. seems that all steven slate sw except ssd4 is quite well-behaved. cw can't give us a heads up about ssd4 because politically "we don't do that."

so, if you get ssd4, be prepared for outrageous sounding samples and grooves that many times cause sonar to crash. ssd is unavailable for support - they don't answer their phone or emails to tech support, and cw can't fix ssd's bad sw.

 just my 2 cents plain.

Well, fwiw I use ssd4 without issue on my system but before I or anyone else can help you, you need to provide specs for your system.  Pc? Mac? Ram? Is ssd4 installed on your main drive or do you have a separate drive for soft synths (you should)?

I've never had a problem with it here either.  Also I've found their support pretty good.  You can even email Steven directly.

Same here, support for me has been excellent, either via their forums or direct email.

sorry, i updated my sig, hasn't shown up here.

SONAR X2a 64-bit; M-Audio Firewire 1814; Win8 64-bit; 32GB RAM; ASUS P9X79; INTEL I7-3820 3.6 GHZ; 850 WATT POWER SUPPLY; EVGA NVIDIA GTX560 TI 1GB
ssd4 is installed on a samples drive (ext usb), not the boot drive.

i've sent emails through their site - no answer. i've called and left messages - no response. is there another email address you guys use?

i replaced the c++ libs.

The first thing to try, IMO, would be installing SSD4 on the system drive. OTOH, if your other VSTs are working OK from an external USB drive, well... Anyway, that's what I'd try.

Not sure if the USB drive would be fast enough for the data streaming from that vst.  Maybe try installing to a second internal drive if you have one.  Your CPU specs are good.

i'll try that, thanks. can't install to boot drive as it is a 250gb ssd (lol) drive, although i'll check to see how big the lib is. not at that pc now...

+Me.

I know this does not help you specifically, but maybe, just maybe, if three people have no problems with SSD4 it might be in your config?

Just a thought.

Ah. I would venture to say that unless your external drive is 7200 RPM that is the root of your problem. And even then, I'd generally not trust an off the shelf USB external. Now, a SATA or USB external 7200RPM, yeah I'd say that will work as I did that on my off the shelf Dell laptop (for remote mixing) with 8.5.3 and X1.
