hmmmm... Interesting tht you can use the spdif option. I just go into my hardware preferences and select the VRM box as the output interface. I would need to change back to my regular interface if I want to record again, but I only use it during the mixing stage.

Yeah being able to switch quickly between the two is essential if you mix "on the fly" like some of us. I use a set of Grado's into my interface to arrange and track, but I'm frequently switching to the VRM box through a set of ATH-M50's to see how things are going. The only thing I have to remember is to toggle the VRM simulation off when I'm not using it, because it does eat some CPU.

UPDATE :   Issue was sorted by updating the software --- see, knew it was easy - hope this helps someone else out later anyways :-)

-------------------------------------

Hope as the OP got things working, its ok to add my own issue to this thread.  I've had the VRM box working fine, then I just changed to a new PC --- as far as I can tell I set everything up as before, yet I have no sound.

I have Sonar Master bus pointing to my MOTU Ultralite, the Ultralite SPDIF out goes to VRM box IN, my headphones to the VRM box phones socket.   The VRM box light is lit green ... no sound though.   Got to be something dead simple I know ... any ideas?

Since the purpose of the box is to let you try out your mix on different sounding systems,
and probably the worse sounding ones are the most useful in the end,
I wonder if it wouldn't be possible to throw together some different effects on a few busses
and then switch between them for output.

You could quickly set a few obvious parameters per buss that would be similar to different speakers and environments.

They don't even have to sound all that good since what you're trying to achieve is a mix that sounds not too bad on
everything including, unfortunately, an iPhone.

Try unplugging the USB cable and plug it back in.  That worked for me.

I have to say the VRM is a very interesting concept and will prove to be a good tool. I haven't put it to the test yet though. I just went through all the different environments. I did play a Steely Dan tune through all the environments and I will say I have a lot of tweaking to do on my mixes. Lol.

This worked for me as well (USB re-plug).  Simple, but frustrating if you don't know about it.  I usually do it after booting, but before starting Sonar and it works fine.

Yep, once everything with the VRM Box is up and running, I noticed also that it worked sometimes, but not always ... then taking the USB cable out and plugging it back in again got it working again.  On my previous computer it would sometimes stop mid-song, then got going again after taking the USB cable out and in again.   Seems a bit more stable on my new PC, but I'm still having to do the USB thing occasionally.   Wonder why that is ...?

Windows by default in its power management settings will disconnect USB devices after some number of minutes of inactivity.

You can review and adjust these settings in Power Management in the Control Panel, so that it never selectively turns off any USB devices.

Hei Bob - thanks for the USB tip - I set in Power Management "USB Selective suspend setting" - "disabled" ----- is this what you meant?    When I come back to my PC after a while away, and also now whenever turning the computer on from the start, I always have to take the USB cable out of the VRM box and put it back again to get it to work ... maybe the setting I altered was not the right one or ...?
