  • Multiple Instances of Dim. Pro in Drum Mgr

I've already posted this in the Software Instruments forum, but I figured there would be many more eyes in this forum that might know the answer. Also, I'm actually an 8.5.3 user. So, I'm trying to use the Drum Mgr to use both the sounds on my ext keyboard, and several instances of Dimension Pro 1.5. It works fine for the 1st instance, but not for the 2nd. The 2nd setup is just like the 1st. I recorded a kick (36), X-stick (37), snare (38) where the kick was using the 1st instance, and I tried both other voices on both the ext. keyboard, AND the 2nd instance of Dim Pro, but only the ext kybd would work. I haven't tried using separate tracks because I want to get the Drum Mgr working. Thanks, KC

I just find it hard to believe that NO ONE in the entire Cakewalk community that has NEVER tried to use Dim Pro 1.5 in the Drum Map Mgr. ALL I'm trying to find out is why I am unable to use more than 1 instance, since the synth will only work 1 instance per channel. That's something else I don't get, is why would Cakewalk dump so much $$$ into developing such an instrument, and not have it support multiple channels..i.e. like V-Sampler, or SampleTank 2L. Obviously, they didn't ask me.

1 Instance, 4 voices on midi channels.  It is a sample playback instrument, not drum machine.  Wishing it was something it isn't won't change what it is.

You can use as many instances as you wish of any softsynth (including DimPro) in Drum Map Manager.  Maybe you could explain in detail how you are trying to set this up.  I didn't understand "The 2nd setup is just like the 1st" or " I haven't tried using separate tracks".

Wouldn't each instance of DP need to be set to a different Midi channel?

Not necessary.  Same channel, different notes to different softsynths.  Each softsynth (or each instance of DimPro or whatever) should have its own audio/synth track (not a simple instrument track).  Only one midi track is required, with it's output set to the drum map.

That's right. Specifying the destination synth is primary.
Channels come more into play when you are using something like TTS-1, Sample Tank, or Proteus.
With these, the channel will specify the instrument or part that the MIDI data is being directed to.
In the following screen shot, all synths are receiving on channel 10.
But the notes are being distributed properly, as the waveform shows.
KC, does this drum map look like what you are trying to do?

Your image serves as a reminder that the OP needs to check that the Output Port in the drum map needs to point to the correct instance of DimPro for this to work correctly
