When I try to move multiple clips from all tracks, it won't move...what to do

When  you say won't move, do you mean not at all, in any direction? I have seen this mentioned in posts before and I think the conclusion was that there was too much for that particular users graphic card to handle or something like that.

Try moving less and see what happens.

If you mean they won't move forward in time it may be that you have one track butting up against 0:0:00, that will make them impossible to move as well. Just like the big bang nothing can exist before 0:0:00.

There was plenty of stuff existed before my first big bang :)

I tried moving two clips from 5 minutes to an earlier time, but it wouldnt do that. Though it was possible to move it forward.

I don't see why my videocard can't handle such simple task... It's not like there is any lagging while trying to move. Could this be fixed by cakewalk team or no?

Oh and if I can't move such many tracks at the same time, how do I cut and paste a few tracks to a specific time and then cut and paste the rest of the tracks to the same time so they sync up?

If you can't move them back in time (I had a typo in my first post where I said forward but meant back ) but you cam move them forward, that is almost definitely one of the tracks butting up against 0:0:00. Hidden event perhaps? If you can move them the other way I'd discount the graphics card suggestion although I think that was straw clutching in another thread.

I just tried to do the same thing in a project with over 50 tracks and it moved no problem. I'd look further at what you have already at 0:0:00. And slip editing IIRC doesn't count as removing unless you apply trimming, so check there too.

That's why I try to use "earlier" and "later". With forward and back, it's not always clear whether users are thinking in terms of how soon the clip is encountered during playback or in terms of the direction the Now time moves.


Anyway, I have to agree it's probably not a resource problem. It's just something about how the clips are selected, or how editing preferences are set. If the selection range goes all the way back to 01:01:000, you won't be able to click anything earlier, even if none of the clips in the selected track go that far back.. er, um... I mean early.


Also, having "Move Over to Make Room" selected in Drag and Drop options may prevent clips from moving earlier, partly because SONAR has a bug that causes it to move clips farther than necessary just to "make room". Better to leave it on Blend Old and New.

Slip editing really shouldn't prevent you from moving a clip earlier, but there could be situations (or bugs) in which it does.


EDIT: All that said, this problem was reported by another member last week sometime, and I don't think he ever resolved it.

Is X1 up the up to date version?

Ok, I found a work-around that worked nicely.

I selected all the tracks (CTRL +A) the on the time ruler I dragged from the begining to the end of the clips which I want to move. Then I dragged those clips and moved it to an EARLIER time with ease!

That sounds to me like you had a clip up against 1:0:0 then, but at least you've achieved what you wanted too.

This is driving me crazy.

I've imported a rough mix of a backing track to SONAR X1 Producer to try out vocal ideas. The backing track is on a single, stereo audio track, and I've added vocals on a further seven audio tracks. All the vocal tracks have multiple, non-overlapping clips recorded on them. Now I've finished recording, I'd like to snip off the stick-count at the start of the backing track and drag/move the content of all eight tracks to the very start of the project.


I have both the 'Fit Tracks and Buses to Window' and 'Fit Project to Window' options selected, so I can see that there is nothing recorded on any track at a point earlier than the start of the backing track (which, with the stick-count removed, now starts at 1:04:000). However, when I do 'Select All' and try to drag/move everything back 3/4 of a bar to 1:00:00, nothing happens.


I have 'Snap to Grid' set to 1/4, and Preferences > Record > Recording Mode set to 'Sound On Sound (Blend)'. It can't be the amount of data causing the problem, as SONAR is quite happy to move all the tracks at once to the right (i.e. later). If I try moving all clips on any individual vocal track to the left in one go, it seems to be only the track with the earliest (i.e. leftmost) data on it which won't move at all, while the others will.
