I'm having trouble getting BFD to work with X2 Studio.  I create an audio track, assign its output to a working audio buss.  I load the BFD softsynth into my effect bin.  I choose the BFD softsynth as my output for my midi drum track.  I play the track and see my midi meters going in correspondence with the kick and snare, but the meter of the BFD audio track doesn't move.  When I do the same setup but substitute the Sonar SI Drum kit softsynth it works fine.

Anybody have a similar setup?  Any special BFD hoops that I should be aware of?

Dropping synths in an audio fx bin is a very old way of working with synth plugins. Try a more modern approach either drag and drop BFD from the browser, use the "Insert > Soft Synth" menu option or create a track template for BFD (if you want to take advantage of the multi-output capabilities) and insert the template.

I like using the synth rack explicitely, like in the real world.

Insert the synth into the rack with nothing connected then create a midi track with its output to the synth and an audio track with its input from the synth.

Scooks hit the nail on the head.
Always load BFD2 from the synth rack and choose either, "all outputs to stereo" (or mono) Stereo will give you 7 stereo outputs ( 8 when you include the master) plus another 16 mono outputs. Loading all to mono will give you 32 mono outputs.

I would start simple first and unless you absolutely must use your own third party plug ins instead of the ones that come with BFD2 you could always just load a single stereo track by choosing, "first synth audio output"

I have some templates I made in order to help people understand BFD2's various routing options which can be found Here
Hopefully the link should work but let me know if it doesn't.

You can ignore the loop and effects I loaded, I was just messing around
