  • Now that development has stopped I wonder if Beta Testers will identify themselves? (p.6)

P.S. No, we're not all "gentlemen"😉!

I, for one, am certainly not a gentleman! Haha!

Honestly in terms of stability and reliability I would just stick with the latest. I didn't notice any significant changes in performance or stability over the past few weeks or even months. And since there wasn't much in the way of major new features introduced recently, I can't see there having been any new showstopping bugs introduced. Nothing that would affect anything other than the new feature itself, anyway.

It was the addition of the Microsoft Surface Dial Support and the Duplicate Track Button Feature which concerned me  because I noticed that there were several bug fixes which addressed those new features in the very last release.

Hi-

I was a beta tester for SONAR 8.5, so way back in 2009/10. It was time-consuming and frustrating at times, but also rewarding. I'm glad I did it.

Uh, okay.
Susan GUh, okay.

Well, I've been told over the years that I have a fairly abrasive personality!  ;)

Of course I took it too seriously and had to be reprimanded a few times. I nearly left twice because I just felt like once again, I wasn't being heard.

Hahaha, nothing describes my experience better than these two sentences. I was a better tester through 8.5 and X1 cycles, and where Danny nearly left, I actually left. Still, I'm surprised how much the Bakers were willing to listen not just to bug reports but to overall feedback (even if they didn't end up heeding it :P). I had (and have) a lot of beef about various PM decisions, but the devs are without question the hardest-working engineers I've seen anywhere (and I'm a software engineer myself!).

Since Danny and Susan already outed themselves, I have to say - they were superstars in reporting bugs. Even when, as cycles ticked away, bugs started becoming scarce.

I've been in a couple of other beta programs since. I have to say, no other beta team I've seen has a community as active, committed, and passionate as the Sonar beta team had. Maybe this fanatical devotion interfered with clear thinking now and then. But being a part of it was no less exhilarating than it was exhausting.

Btw, I have no idea if I was the only one who submitted a feature request for built-in console emulation back in the day, but I'm totes taking all the credit for it. :P

Thank you all so much. From the other side of the pond I can tell you there are a lot of tears being shed here.
I know so many people here in Ireland who have been using Cakewalk for years. I personally have endorsed Cakewalk to so many Cubase users and won them over. This is truly a sad time for me. Wish there was more we could do to keep this excellent DAW alive. I will be using it until one of the two of us give up. Sonar Platinum Pro forever.
It's been a pleasure, Thanks guys. Hugh.

Sorry to hear that SimpleM.  You know what it's like to get burned then.
